is using a balun better than coax cable?

Recommended Posts

how about this type of balun, i found on google, does power, video and audio via cat5 cable which i have stacks of. if i bought a few of these and stuck it on my camera and dvr using 24vac through it i can run all my cameras without the need for coax cable? if this is ok it will save me a bit of cash. then i would just need a fig8 cable for my IR light instead of 100m of coax and 200m of fig 8 for all 4 cameras. i have a maximum run on furthest camera of about 25 metres.

I wouldn't say it's "better" or "worse" to use one method or the other... but it should work just fine for your purposes. Each has its place.

Coax cable is stronger and better IMO, especially without additional adapters and connectors.

But in some cases UTP must be used.
