Recommended Posts

thinking about putting a 90 LED IR illuminator above my front door, do they attract bugs?

Yes, IR can attract bugs.

who here has a 850nm ir illuminator that attracts bugs? if so how many and what sort?

I have a 50W RayMax 850nm. I live in northern CA where there are not many bugs, but the ones that are attracted to the IR are easy prey for the bats.

Christopher

Every heat source attracts bugs, the more heat the more bugs. I have a BW camera that gets covered in cobwebs and has no IR and is barely visible as it is so tiny .. but it gets hot and the spider loves it. An annoying example of this is inside my appt the darn bugs tear me appart some nights, best way to deter it is to leave a light on in say the bathroom with a very bright bulb so the bugs to that way instead of all over me, yes basically its the body heat they are after, as with LCD displays, TV Displays etc. I kind of live in a little jungle though

So to answer your question, that 90LED will get covered in bugs .. if you have alot of bugs in the area. In fact it could be like my Infrared camera here which looks like its snowing there are so many bugs!
