Dr X PTZ Cam 0 Posted September 20, 2009 Does anyone know anything about this camera? I tried getting reviews on it, but little is known. It is pretty new on the market. I purchased for about $600.00. I have a Lorex L208 series DVR with Pelco D PTZ compatibility. The camera comes right out of the box all ready to just plug in. It is the standard RS485 connection. Very simple! It uses the standard 2400 baud rate and the cam ID has been set. All dip switches within the camera exactly match my system. However as soon as you power up the camera, It just seems to be stuck in some tour mode and will not settle and be ready for incoming commands. I am wondering why, even with the RS 485 disconnected that it will still not come out of that tour mode. If anyone can help, please respond. If you need to know more about the camera, just google it. as per the title of this thread. Any help would be grateful. Thanks,, Dr X..
Dr X PTZ Cam 0 Posted September 21, 2009 Dear Channel Vision Support Team, I have just purchased and received your product, The 6153 PTZ Dome Camera. Purchase Date 09/14/2009. It was purchased from beachaudio. right there in your state of Cali. With all new products I buy, I always test them first before install. When I tested this 6153 cam, I found that it will not stop in it's startup mode. It tends to keep restarting this mode and then go's into some type of tour setting. It just loops this tour indefinitely. My question is, Is this normal right out of the box? Or should it settle down after start up. After further looking into this issue, I noticed a error on the cable interface box circuit board. (RS 485 Input) See attached jpg. Even though I tested the circuit and plug by reversing the polarity, The cam still will not go out of this tour mode. My Current System And Controller DVR: Lorex L208 with PTZ Pelco D Protocol Camera Feature @ 2400baud Cam ID # 1 Camera dip switch settings. 2400baud Pelco D Protocol # 3 On. Camera ID Set To 1 on. DVR PTZ Settings: Pelco D @ 2400baud Cam ID set to 1. No parity, 8 bit, 1 stop bit. (The Normal Pelco D Protocol). After exausting all steps to repair this problem, Do I have a defective product? I would like a response quickly as this was a birthday gift to me. I paid out $600.00. I am sad that it don't work. I even checked it out on your controller that my neighbor has. It still does the same thing as above.
rory 0 Posted September 21, 2009 Hi, was it second hand or brand new? Im going to take a guess that it was new right? Have you contacted the reseller about it yet? When new they shouldn't even have any tours programmed into them. Do you see anything in the manual about resetting it back to defaults? $600 retail for a PTZ its not going to be the best PTZ out there, that is more than $1000 cheaper than the average PTZ retail cost from like GE and others. BUT, it should at least not be going around in an unremovable tour.

I dont understand this logic - if a mid-level price for a PTZ is $1500, why not just go buy the $90 ebay PTZ's if anything less that $1500 is not up to par? Surely a $600 camera is better than a $90 camera? The reason I am asking is that I am looking for PTZ cameras and at first my budget was $500 per camera - after research it has now reluctantly gone up to $1000 per camera - are you now stating that even at $1500 per camera, the camera is just "OK". Very confusing

Very confusing Sure you could buy the Ebay cameras and replace them every other month if they even give you a quality image at 5 feet. People want to read license plates at 100M in the dark and want to spend $100 (expectations are unrealistic) .... It is possible but your gonna spend $5000 to do it. Please keep in mind most of the guys giving advice on this site are professional installers and we would never install a camera like this for are customers because of reliably issues. Quality security products are not cheep, you get what you pay for. I am not trying to rain on your parade I am just being realistic

Very confusing The logic is simple. That $600 PTZ camera you saw is actually dealer price, so retail would be around $1000. So when I say $1500 please note that the price in wholesale/dealer is ofcourse less. If you are an end user or dealer I do not know. Eitherway we are only allowed to post retail/list prices on this forum and that is why you will see those listed and not dealer. It is unfortunate that there are online drop ship sites that sell to end users at dealer/wholesale price, undercutting those that are in the business, that being many members on this forum who come here to help, well, end users. Anyway, obviously a $90 PTZ will be a piece of crap. A $600 or $1000 will be better, the $1500 one is not THE BEST but it is going to be very good, the best meaning it may not be the best for your location, in other words it is only a COLOR camera, which will not see a thing at night, therefor one would need to upgrade to a true Day/Night PTZ which can bring the cost up at least $500-1000 or so more .. then how about special features like WDR .. add another $500-1000 .. and lets not forget the cost of the keyboard controller .. the big brands are not cheap .. that can easily run $500+. But trust the diff between that $600-$1000 camera with a generic PelcoD keyboard, and the GE Kalatel with its own keyboard, with the same basic specs, is considerable. Then again, for most "budget" applications the cheaper PTZ may suffice (how budget is a PTZ though really)
Dr X PTZ Cam 0 Posted September 30, 2009 Once re flipping the dip switches for this cam, It worked well for one week. Now going back for warranty work. I have faith in this cam as it gives what it says. However, I was happy with it's performance. It's 500 TV lines of res was good!. Very fast pan and tilt. Zoom and auto focus worked well. Though the cam has no In-fared LED's, It's Night vision is superb! Mounted on a 30' Mast, I was seeing things that I never knew were there. Hopefully, They can replace or fix it. I will write another string on this when it is back and fixed. I will not give up on this cam just yet as it was what satisfied my setup. Will Post Later. got input on this subject? drx. Tailbone215 0 Posted September 30, 2009 It is unfortunate that there are online drop ship sites that sell to end users at dealer/wholesale price, undercutting those that are in the business, that being many members on this forum who come here to help, well, end users. Agreed! And a lot of these sites are blacklisted by the manufacturer and will not honor any warranty. You're basically on your own. When you combine the little bit of savings, which isn't much, for the aggravation you have to go through it isn't worth it. Too bad a lot of these sites are deceptive and aren't forthcoming with this fact allowing the customer make the choice of whether or not this "savings" is really worth it. On the other side of the coin there are a small percentage of installers that push the customer into cutting out the "middle man" by their gouging and poor quality installs. It's a two way street and it is always best to look at it from both perspectives.
