question regarding using only 4 channels on a 12 ch. card

This is probably a silly question but if you use fewer channels than a card can support, say 4 cameras on a 12 channel GV-800-12, can you only display the active channels or will the software show all the inactive channels as well with no video?

Depends on the software, but most will let you display a range of different layouts, with whatever cameras you select, like these:

As mentioned depends on the card. Most let you enable/disable channels, therefor the empty ones will just be blank or no video image. You can then set a default multiscreen display such as 10 way, 16 way, 4 way, etc. based on the number of cameras you have.

thanks for thte replies. Ill be using Geovision 8.3. Can you use other software with geovision cards?
