Local and remote viewing question

Recommended Posts

First off. Nice and informative forum

This is my first time setting up cctv and would appreciate any info on how I can go about this.

Scenario: Will use an 8ch DVR. 4ch will be viewable on the security officer monitor (local) while the remaining 4ch will be included in the recording to harddrive (covert recording).

I was wondering if it is possible to set the cameras that can be viewed remotely thru user accounts? so that I can view all 8ch remotely even if 4 are set to covert recording.

Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.

Btw, I'm looking at avtech dvr's, any suggestion on which model that is capable of doing what I want to achieve?

Thanks

It's possible, depending on the DVR. I don't know about AvTech, but Vigil will allow the level of control you want via user accounts - you could set up a "Guard" user group and disable viewing for those covert cameras, for example, yet still log in remotely with the Administrator account to view and configure all cameras.

Wow! people here are fast. Thanks for the quick reply Soundy.

Exactly what I intend to do. "Guard" is not allowed to view certain department in the office

Anyone had experience with Avtech products as I got ony a handful brands available locally that is within the budget given. Does Geovision cards support this feature?

ExacqVision can also do this. You can setup different groups/users and limit there access to different functions. You could have one group/user only able to see live video from 4 cameras another group could see live and recorded for all 8 cameras. The groups/user has no clue there is other cameras on the system.

@thewireguys - thanks for the recommendation, problem is it's not available locally.

Anyone with avtech products care to share their experience?

Budget DVRs dont generally have any features like that, eg. Avtech.

PC Based DVRs will give you the most features, such as Geo, which can enable/disable cameras for separate applications based on the user account. Most PC software will do this now, except perhaps the stuff you find at kmart or sams club.

Our JS Series DVR will allow for the configuration of viewing certain cameras depending upon permissions. It will also allow you to lock out any views on an attached TV/monitor as well as Network viewing. Simply create a user, check or uncheck specific views, save. If you have locked out that user not to be able to view cameras 1, 2, and 3, they will not be able to view those cams no matter how they are logged in. Also, you can disable the playback feature on any or all as well. A user logged in as admin or any other user name you define and apply full admin permissions, this person will have full access. All of the JS series DVR's have this feature even our economy JS RT4.

I wish I could comment on the Avtech DVR but I do not have any experience with them.

CMS software is separate, but what do you need it for?

You can freely download the remote viewer and remote playback software.
