todd2 0 Posted September 26, 2009 I was looking for an entry level intellicam 8 channel dvr and stumbled upon a web page [edit by mod-store link removed] selling the G4-8LTA for $455. However the "specs" link is broken and the intellicam website doesn't list that model. Is it discontinued? For the models I do see listed on the intellicam website, the minimum price on the web is around $700, which is $200 more. It's really a shame that a good 8 channel is the price of 2 4 channels. (Or, I could order a cheaper one from gadspot, but you can't figure out what brand you're actually getting, which makes me nervous.)
shoreviewsecurity 0 Posted September 26, 2009 Thanks Blake! Intellicam no longer carries that DVR. They now offer the JS Series DVR. We have experience with both platforms and favor the JS line for many reasons. Warranty, features, just to name a few. That site is obviously not current. I'm sure that DVR is still available somewhere but I'd bet, not at that price.
todd2 0 Posted September 28, 2009 Are the Intellicam DVRs quiet? I found the fan noise from the Avtech 761 unacceptably loud, and had to extensively modify the case to mount a larger fan spinning at a low RPM to achieve the same airflow. Ideally, I'd like something as quiet as a Dell PC. (I also had a problem with the damn buzzer on the Avtech 761 sounding each time the unit switched on and off, so I had to remove it from the motherboard with a soldering iron. However, I've recently been running it 24/7 so that isn't as much of a problem with my next DVR.) Obviously, if I pay $700 for a DVR, I'm not going to want to take a chance voiding the warranty like I did with the AVC 761.
alpine0000 0 Posted October 1, 2009 Are the Intellicam DVRs quiet? Ideally, I'd like something as quiet as a Dell PC. No. Not really. But dont do what I do, and put it in your bedroom. I have the G4 8 channel DVR in the corner of my bedroom, sitting right next to a dell desktop computer. The DVR is louder. I dont think that should be a deal breaker, though. I think you should put it somewhere where its not critical to have no noise. For example, i think living room and bedroom are bad places, because you are either trying to watch tv, or sleep, depending on which room. I am moving mine soon to my media closet with the rest of my stuff. I am just waiting to add my last few cameras though, and rerun the wires.
