AVTech ACV796D problem displaying recorded video

Recommended Posts

I've just bought the AVC 796 DVR and am having problems reviewing any saved event footage.

I have it set up to record only motion detection events but when I go to review footage I get some of the footage then the playback either freezes or goes black. The DVR then restarts itself. This happens when I use the search functionalty based on a date/time.

The only way I can review footage in its entirity is through the log. I've read in the manual that footage must be 8mb to play successfully, could that be it, and how do I ensure that each recording is above 8mb?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hiya Daz

Factory defult / reset the DVR and set it up again

You can't make it record 8mb per event unless you set the post record time to X time but not sure if you can do that on AVTECH

How many Cameras have you plugged in?

How much movement have you got on the cameras?

Bit of setup maybe needed or you got corrupt software

How old is this machine?

It sounds more like you have a hard drive problem, or a power supply problem to the hard drive.

Is this the hard drive that came with the machine, or is this one that you installed yourself?

This is a very rare event that you are having.

Answers to the questions above:

The DVR is less than a week old and I'm using the 500gb Hard Drive that came with it.

Its an 8CH DVR and I am using 5 cameras.

I have entended the pre and post motion recording to its max to try and make up the 8mb.

I will reset everything now (if I can do it remotely) and see if that changes anything.

BTW - All of my config and playback is done through the Client (AP) or using IE over the net.... I assume this should not make a difference.

You should take this machine back under warranty.

You either have a bad DVR, or you are trying to do something that the machine was not disigned to do.

If the machine is set for overwrite then you should not have to do anything for the 8MB.

Show the people what you are doing when it crashes, and see what they say.

I rang the supplier of the DVR and they said either try a new hard disk or return the DVR.

Tried a different hard disk but had the exact same problem. Then I restored the factory settings and now all seems to be working fine. What ever configuration I had seemed to be causing the problem but its working as it should now.

I'm starting to come to terms with the video viewer software. The manual is useless in terms of explaining when you are remotly using the DVR HDD or your PC HDD, and its hard to know which settings are controling the DVR or the PC.

Thanks for all the feedback. If there is any info out there that explains which controls in the Video Viewer Software apply to the DVR and which apply to the PC I'd appreciate a link.

I truely do not understand what you are saying.

Video Viewer never controls your PC, or your PC's Hard Drive "Per Se".

I will need a deeper explanation.

Video Viewer: Which feature are you using? Are you looking at past history? Are you searching for video?

If you press the film strip icon in Video Viewer, and record the video then you are essentially recording your video two times. Once with the DVR, and secondly on to your PC's hard drive.

To view the video on your PC you go to the file where your video resides, and you will click on an icon. The video should come up right away. There are two icons that share the same title. One is for the actual video, and the other (OK I have not clue), I believe is to allow you to search the videos.

My videos are stored on C:\ tempvideo

C:\ temppicture stores your snapshots (camera icon)

Are you recording video directly to your remote PC?

The viewer software that came with my previous DVR would only let you control settings on the actual DVR. I suppose I expected all DVR software to work in the same way.

However, with Video Viewer and my AVTech DVR it seems that there is additional functionality that allows the user to save images/files to the Local HDD and on the DVR itself. There are configuration changes you can make for your PC and the DVR. What I am not clear on from using the Video Viewer software is, when I make a setting change does it apply to the DVR or on my local PC.

Based on the manual I have it does not go into any details on this. Am I making sense yet?

What are you entering in on Video Viewer?

The icon with the box, and gear?

This is the DVR. I assume that you are looking at where the file will reside for your video. Is this correct?

When Video Viewer launches and before you expand the progam to full screen you get a range of icons accross the top. The icons are Address booK, Miscellaneous Control, Log, Record, Snapshot, Informaton, and DVR control.

Then when you expand the program to full screen you get different controls on the bottom right you have the two cogs, dvr control and PTZ.

So what I'm not sure about is if Miscellaneous Control/Remote config changes only the Server settings or both the server and the local PC?

Does Miscellaneous Control/Record setting changes settings on both DVR and PC or just the PC?

Log - why is this always empty even thought I get montion alert events on the Video Viewer UI? So is the Event log for stored events on the DVR or PC?

What does "Network Independant" and "RETR Remote record" do?

Thanks

The version of the setup file I have is 0.1.3.0, on the DVD that came with the DVR its called the #h.264.

Mine is different to the screen shots in your link.

Log is an extra option I have with this version of Video Viewer - always there.

DVR control is there when I login.

What does "Network Independent" and "RETR Remote record" do?

.0.1.3.0

Do you have your DVR setup for remote view?

I just download this version, and I can confirm that it works with the AVC 760A / AS

PM your IP address. Do not post here.

I logged in to an AVC 760A, and I see what you mean by the larger tool palette when you expand to full screen.

Interesting. The earlier versions of Video Viewer would just create a full screen of the video, and you would have to press ESC to get out of full screen.

The 0130 version is interesting as it has EMAP!

I looked at those tools that you described. I cannot get in to the double gears. It may be specific to your DVR, and the AVC 760A may not have this option built in.

[Edit.....Pressing double gears changes the set of icons below, and pressing DVR control brings up a palette that provides menu, up, down, left, right, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, and more].

I can get in to the hammer, and wrenches icon.

These are all internal to the DVR selections, and do not control any changes to your PC.

RETR allows you to record video directly to the remote PC. If the DVR gets stolen then you still have the video files.

Log - why is this always empty even thought I get montion alert events on the Video Viewer UI? So is the Event log for stored events on the DVR or PC?

When you press the film strip icon then you will record video to your hard drive. The log allows you to select a recording. I like this option that they have set up. I do not have to go to my computer, and go to C drive, and then open tempvideo, and then select a video to watch.

This version of Video Viewer has my vote!

It appears to be an overlay with the video "addressed" to sit behind where the square opening is located.

I was pressing around on buttons, and I found FLIP.

I fell out of my chair laughing my butt off! The video flipped upside down!

That was too funny!

What does "Network Independant" and "RETR Remote record" do?

Thanks

RETR

Avtech started with software called Video Server S.

When they went MPEG4 then they came out with Video Server E.

I do not know what they call the H.264 viewer. I guess the Video Viewer started with enough "engineering" to connect to the H.264 DVRs that first rolled off the assembly line, and they made it backwards compatable with DVRs that used Video Server E.

Nice transition in my book.

What really pissed people off about Video Server S, and E was that the remote viewer would be pressing buttons, and the local guy's video would change. Example local guy is watching Multi Screen, and the remote guy is pressing camera one in full screen. Now the local guy cannot see the multi screen. The local guy goes in to the menu to make changes, and the remote guy sees the menu on his screen messing up his view of came one.

Network independant view allows the local guy to see what he wants, and the remote guy to see what he wants. This function can be disabled so that both users see the same video.

Does this make sense?

Here is a quick flash demo for everyone to see.

What do you think?
