[Urgent] Looking for Long range camera solution

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm an engineer from Malaysia. Currently, my company is looking for a long range camera solution which approaches the requirement as below:

* The project does not involved in the oil and gas industry, thus our solution

does not need explosive-proof

* The camera will be installed on the platform where is in the middle of

the sea. Thus, it must be protected from rust and salt air corrosion

* PoE IP camera

* Day/night camera

* Night vision ability

* Standard resolution

* Range vision at least five (5) miles

* Zoom and Pan/Tilt ability

* Wiper washer

the camera will need to be at least 1/2inch format and IR sensitive [&cut filter] that's the easy part... Arecont/iqeye etc

5miles [8km] that gunna be a sucker of a lens! and day-night mmmm you will need a LASER illuminator or one of the new fangled range gating cameras.

You could save lots of money and just ask Paris if you can be at her pool party....

my calculations [Tamron]

Object distance is 26246.72 ft or 8000 m.

To cover a horizontal area of 16.4 ft/5 m and a vertical area of 12.3 ft/3.75 m,

* For 1/3" cameras: a focal length of 7680 mm.

* For 1/2" cameras: a focal length of 10240 mm.

think you need a telescope, A 2200mm lens is the biggest I have seen

with C mount [fuji C55x20D-ENSE11] And 360mm for a mega pixel lens but im sure there's something out there !

Also the Raymax [Konfoosing] it's so big its got a handle @2m !

http://www.raymax.co.jp/english/

these guys have some monster lenses and videos

http://www.cctv-lens.com/monster.html

Also there is post here somewhere using large canon lenses and Avigilon camera's seems to be a sweet combo

going for coffee.....

What resolution would you need at 5 miles? Check out the FLIR products. You wouldn't be able to identify faces at long range but could see approaching craft to the horizon.

SeaFLIR Link Here

"SeaFLIR is a long-range, gyro-stabilized, thermal imager that provides high resolution infrared images in daylight as well as in total darkness. Unlike low-light cameras that require some light to create an image, SeaFLIR senses heat and is able to detect small targets even out on the horizon."

Features

* Mid- or large format mid-wave IR with up to 450 mm of continuous zoom

* Daylight/lowlight TV with 40x zoom

* Gyro-stabilization

* Rugged marinization – exceeds Mil-standards

* Digital and analog video outputs

Applications

* Navigation

* Iceberg Detection

* Collision Avoidance

* Man Overboard Recovery

* Fire Detection

* Vessel in Distress Detection

* Anti-Terrorism

* Vessel, Crew & Passenger Protection

* Long-range Detection of Inbound Vessels, Day and Night

I'd have to say the range-gated laser illuminated cams would be the way to go here. With that, you have the ability to look through fog, plus you get distance info with your image.

I think their price is in the "if you gotta ask..." category, though.

That is my favorite price range

Kind of reminds me of a sci-fi robot from the 50's. "Gort, Klaatu Barada Nikto!"

Of course, the FLIR one looks like the pod in 2001: "Open the pod bay doors, HAL!"

Take a look at Megapixels posts here.

http://www.cctvforum.com/about11322-0-asc-75.html

http://www.cctvforum.com/about11322-0-asc-105.html

The Bosch one is only 36x (122mm) great camera but 1km max for anything other than a general view.

Il'd be saying 2000mm like ZMtech, used similar (think Avenir brand) to the one he linked to in a Pelco PTZ enclosure before but wind vibration was a ***.

http://www.pelco.com/products/default.aspx?id=178

This was the PTZ unit we used, had 20KG counter weights and an custom housing to fit the lens and we still had issues with anything over 12knotts wind.

Height is also a consideration at that distance as need to be 20-25m above sea level to stop horizon obscuring.

All depends on how close you want to be able to zoom to as well, see a container ship at 8km or see a person on the deck is a big difference.

oh I found this sucker

http://www.panavision.com/product_detail.php?maincat=6&cat=286&id=360&node=c0,c3

300x just what you need !

This monster lens is really amazing! However, it's application is very limited. You have to have at least 5000 lx lighting conditions to be able to see something with this lens with satisfactory quality. Basically it would mean that it is ok for cloudless daylight condition, but anything less than that would cause problems.

cryptotelecom is not a CCTV manufacture.

They are a distributor in Korea for core components which they then sell to IP manufacture or they do large customized projects in korea.

CryptoTelecom provides core technologies and products to the manufacturers so that they can manufacture IP devices very easily by integrating their own technologies and products.

They make components for IP module no one can manufacture a camera like this unless they specialize in IR one look at cypto and you can tell they manufacture IP not IR cameras.

You don't buy a camera like that from Korea

for warranty and support purposes.

its a about a $130,000~$180,000 camera.

But they do seem to make some great IP components.

Yes, I know about them because my DVR card manufacturer/ Software vendor uses their encoders for their hybrid systems.

I know shipping would be a bear for warranty, but I've spent time in Seoul with a few different vendors, and their honesty and integrity beats anything we've got here in the U.S., or, God forbid, from Chinese vendors.

yes Koreans are excellent to work with and have good quality products.

And are often on the cutting edge of technology.

But due to there Location, time change, and shipping logistics its hard for them to fully support a sophisticated product such as the Terra camera..

But they are extremely knowledgeable and the best at what they do.

Sounds alot like marketing hype, everyone does that these days.

Another thing, why dont they show videos or even images of their product in action? Makes no sense ...

What EM-CCD camera is it? Who makes the IR (they look chinese)? Lots of questions you may not get an answer to. BTW a samsung EMCCD camera runs around $5000, even with the best IR out there, a PTZ controller and the zoom lens, i dont see how it can reach $100,000. But hey ... if someone has the money to waste then go ahead.

by the way for anyone interested, here is the link to the "manufacturer" web site:

Its not Hype have you been to there website they have no marketing at all just good products. Bosch and pelco those products are all about marketing as they spend more money on marketing and selling then they on product development.

They use dual laser where someone like Vumii uses one.

And addition 2 fllod light to capture the fist 500m as with most laser system don't illuminate a lot the first 300m.

If you buy the Lens direct from Raymax it is $65,0000 USD for the 20-2000mm lens. Where as the 1500mm lens from fujifilm is around $7,000.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com/pdfs/Terra%20PTZ%20overview.pdf

Its not Hype its the longest Active IR camera using continuous laser (observe pulses the IR)

Its not a cheap camera but is extremely high end and not based on hype based on performance.
