dvrtiger 0 Posted October 18, 2009 You should try to locate software tool for Maxtor products and use it to zero fill your HDD. Zeroing will erase any traces of boot sectors, page files etc.
rory 0 Posted October 18, 2009 as they said Zero fill will wipe it completely, though it could take hours. You could just do a full format then delete the partition, thats the most common method, though it doesnt wipe it as Zero fill does and forensic teams would still be able to get some data from it using special software. cruelty 0 Posted October 19, 2009 in what "format" should i format the disk too? NTFS? Fat? Fat32? etc before deleting the partition? Downloaded maxtor software(Max Blast) to try the zero fill method but there does not seem to be an option to do that thanks for the info guys
rory 0 Posted October 19, 2009 What DVR are you going to use this in? If its a Windows based then typically it will be NTFS. If its an Embedded Stand alone DVR normally you just delete the partition and the DVR itself will partition and format it (or let you format it manually) when you first start it up with the drive as then it must be formatted in their file system.
