Is a 2.9mm fixed lens ok for indoor use?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at using 5 cameras indoors with a 2.9mm fixed lens. Two of the cameras will be facing each other about 30 feet apart, one will be in the corner of a room with a max distance of 20ft, one will be in the corner of a room that is about 14x14, and another will be in my garage. The camera I'm consering is the Nuvico CV-HD2N-L, any feedback would be appreciated.

Using a lens of 2.8mm is extreme wide angle. This you must remember. Obtaining a top grade picture will be very hard at times. This type of lens in for just a general view image. Like who goes in and out. It will be hard to identify a person in detail. Where you point the cameras doesn't effect the picture even when you point them at each other. Be sure to not point them directly at any light source such as a lighting fixture or the outside sun light. If you have outside light in the background, to overcome this problem you would have to have a camera with "back light compensation" (BLC.)
