lewisfla06 0 Posted October 31, 2009 I have one camera setup that picture messages to me when there is activity at that exact location. I'm experimenting with this. I will love it if I can resolve one issue - the bright sunlight during the day is setting off motion-deteciton. I've have turned down the motion sensitivity, but that did not resolve my trouble. I have a feeling if I could get a camera that does not have auto-iris, etc, that maybe I would no longer have this trouble. Advice? Thoughts? Make/model? Soundy 1 Posted October 31, 2009 Sunlight on its own should not be causing motion detection. It may be something else moving through the field causing changes in brightness, or reflections off moving objects. Changing to a manual- or fixed-iris lens isn't likely to solve your problem - in fact, if you have wide variations in lighting, the lack of ability to adjust to that with an auto-iris will probably make your situation worse - either it will be completely washed out in the bright sun, or if you adjust for the bright sun, it will be too dark once the light is gone. rory 0 Posted October 31, 2009 Sounds like a job for a Panasonic WDR camera. Actually, I dont know what camera you have now, so hard to say, but if it is a cheap Bullet camera or dome camera for example, they typically do not do well with light handling, auto iris or not. Just upgrading to a higher quality camera, like a decent brand dome or box camera even better, not even necessarily a Panasonic, may help with your issues. Ofcourse you could always just put the camera on time lapse (continuous) on 1pps or similar and forget about motion. Where I live, I know what he means by Sunlight causing the motion detection but as mentioned it is more then likely something like clouds or trees and shadows etc. actually causing the motion. If thats the case then its unlikely even a Panasonic will help with that.
