looking at putting 2 cameras in the entrance to a pub,

there going inside one is covering an 4mx4m areas the other is covering the main corridoor 4mx10m. the light is good.

Looking at a cameras for excellent facial recognition...

any recomendations?

Lighting is your main issue here, since most pub entrances (in my experience) are fairly dark, and you get NASTY backlighting on people coming in when the door is open.

 

If the budget allows it, I'd suggest a pair of Panasonic CP484s (box-type) with ~3-10mm varifocal lenses, or CW484s (domes). They'll work well in the dim light and handle the backlighting really well.

If you want "res" you cant beat IP cameras, but if you have a analog system

the pana would be great with the correct lens zoomed in.

 

In your situation I would have a wide angle doing the door area and 2 cams with 5-50mm or so zoomed into the 'in and out' of the doors getting head and shoulder shots.

 

Make sure the shutter is set for a higher speed capture of people -not 1/25 slow-mo that the automatic might select. this will give a crisp picture when there is a runner or a biffo/fight.

You need a WDR camera like the Panasonic mentioned above.

 

Is the camera pointing at the entrance?

When someone walks in and opens the door, the light from outside will create a problem for cameras that aren't wide dynamic range.
