Nelix 0 Posted November 17, 2009 Hi all I'm new to the forum and fairly new to CCTV. I have a question that I'm hoping can be answered on here. I have just putchased a new DVR (AVTECH AVC785) for use with a couple of static cameras and a Vista Dome Camera, I also have the keyboard/joystick controller for the Dome. On the rear of the DVR there is an RS485 port that I was hoping to be able to plug the keyboard into however the I have only ever used a standard Cat5e network cable for the keyboard in the past and was wondering if I need to buy an adaptor or if I can make one so that I can use the keyboard with this DVR as the port on the unit is RJ11. Hope this makes sense, if not let me know and I'll upload some pics and try to explain better. Kind Regards Nelix

You can use Cat5, and an RJ11. Cut the 6 unused wires flush to the jacket then place the RJ11 on the wires, and and use the RJ11 tool to attach it to the wire. You may want to use to extra wires in the connector to give it "stability". 2: RS485B 3: RS485A

scorpion 0 Posted November 18, 2009 I was afraid of that! I posted the picture at the bottom of this webpage: http://scorpiontheater.com/io.aspx This will allow you to have the keyboard control an RS485 PTZ, and the AVTech DVR can control the PTZ. I would set the keyboard presets, and the DVR PTZ presets the same. When you use the keyboard you will get used to your presets. When you use the DVR presets it will have the same views. I do not know if the AVTech DVRs can be controlled with a keyboard to change views, and other functions. AVTech has released a keyboard recently, but I have never worked with it, and I do not know what it can do. AVTech DVRs can be controlled via RS232, and the older manuals have an appendix at the end of the manual.
