mliebs8 0 Posted November 20, 2009 What is the focal range of the panasonic cw484? I keep seeing 2x but I'm not sure what that means.
hardwired 0 Posted November 21, 2009 3.8 to 8mm, not sure why they have to make it hard to find, either. You can also get a fixed 2.2mm model, and a 15-50mm varifocal. You can change the lenses after, also, but you have to turn them REALLY hard to get them loose. Great camera, BTW.
Soundy 1 Posted November 21, 2009 "2x" is the zoom range from 3.8-8mm (would technically be 2.1052631578947368421052631578947x, but who's counting?). 15-50mm would be a 3.333x zoom factor.
hardwired 0 Posted November 21, 2009 Yeah, but you gotta admit "2X" isn't the spec you would look for either. Focal length range is the spec I look for... "2x" kinda leaves open the question 2x from where to where....
Soundy 1 Posted November 21, 2009 Exactly; for CCTV, it's pretty meaningless. 2.5-5mm, 4-8mm, 25-50mm, or 200-400mm are all "2x".

I had one where I pretty much gave up, and left the stock lens in place. I literally couldn't get the thing off.
mliebs8 0 Posted November 21, 2009 I appreciate the help. I can't wait until the UPS man gets here on Monday to deliver it. Does anyone know how well lit it has to be as far as using it indoors and still being able to get a good picture.
hardwired 0 Posted November 21, 2009 It's hard to give a definite answer on the lighting levels that will give an image that YOU find acceptable, however the general consensus here is that there are not too many better cams, for a lot of settings... BTW, why are you using a vandal proof, weather rated dome indoors? Kind of overkill, but you probably will not be disappointed.

Well the cameras I installed indoors aren't clear enough and the place I bought them from agree, so they are sending me a couple of cameras to try and one of them is the Panasonic CW484. At this point I'm in so deep the money isn't really that big of a factor but I do agree it seems like overkill. If the picture looks good I'll be happy
