bantham1 0 Posted November 21, 2009 Which one of the cameras above would be the better choice? The Panasonic looks to be a good camera, but I don't know how it would do in no to little light without IR. The Samsung has IR and is supposed to have a dynamic range chip also? alpine0000 0 Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) ...I don't know how it would do in no to little light without IR It cant see with 'no' light. You either need some light, or some IR. That is pretty much the case with most cameras. That said, the image looks great with IR, and it works pretty well in low-light applications as well. It also handles dark and bright areas in the same image very well. I have no experience with the Samsung camera though. I just own 3 of the Panasonics. The Samsung looks like a decent IR camera just looking at the specs, though. I think the Panasonic may be a slightly better camera overall, but the Samsung will give you performance in total darkness, which the Panasonic will not do unless you add IR. If it were me, I would choose the Panasonic and add IR if you need to see in the dark! Edited November 22, 2009 by Guest
bantham1 0 Posted November 22, 2009 The Panasonic pictures do look good. Nobody here seems to have experience with the Samsung cameras. Specs on the Samsungs look good, but I don't know how they will live up to them. Where did you get your 484s at?
alpine0000 0 Posted November 22, 2009 I bought 2 of them in the classified section here, and then I bought the 3rd one online. Check out this thread. I posted a lot of pictures throughout the thread with screenshots of the CW484. They picture quality is very good, especially in total darkness. The focus adjustment can be a bit sensitve but overall they are truley awesome and worth every penny. I have them both set for wide angle ( approx 2.8mm ) and have no issues with IR spread as has been spoken about on a few other forums. Hope this hepls
bantham1 0 Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks for the replies everybody. I went with four of the Panasonic CW's based upon mixed feedback. I saw some screen shots of the CW's on the forum that looked pretty good. I may have to add some cheap external IR's but if that is the case, it should not be a problem. Soundy 1 Posted November 29, 2009 It cant see with 'no' light. You either need some light, or some IR. IR *is* light... just very long wavelength on the verge of human vision.
alanjh1965 0 Posted December 3, 2009 I went to an Open Day at the Samsung Techwin HQ here in the UK. They had their range on display / demo. They have not heard of any range problems with the 4160 IR. I will be installing a mixture of the 4160 / 4260's in a car dealership in the next couple of weeks so I will post a review / pics then. I have am currentley installing 6 SDC-435's and a SH745 and will also post pics. I have one up and running and it is very good in low light.
