help with new geovision card

Recommended Posts

i have about 15 of the older geovision cards. i have been buying geovision systems starting 3 years ago. i think 8.0 was the software back then. also, my cards had the vga dongles with 1-8 and 9-16. the newer cards i have have dvi out and have all 16 video cams on 1 dongle and the 16 audio on another dongle.

here is my problem...

i got some custom software from Rory, the guy that runs these forums.

the remote software ran perfect with the older style cards. i am not sure if this is an 8.0 to 8.3 software upgrade or if it is a problem with vga to dvi dvr card.

either way, the remote program that rory wrote doesnt work with the latest DVR cards.

i NEED those remote programs to work.

one of them was a custom HTML file that had the camera information inside the html file and when i double clicked it, it just opened an IE window and displayed my cameras.

the other program was called live scan and it scanned all of my camera views on a monitor with the settings i added in.

i hope someone on there has used either of those 2 programs and can give me some insight on why i am getting a blue screen with these new dvr cards.

from what i understand, rory doesn't frequent the forums that much any longer, but rory, if you are out there and could shed some light on this, i would appreciate it.

Hey ... yeah Geo screwed us all. Even their own Remote player doesnt work with 8.3. Sorry but im not using their DM multiview. Anyway, all older activeX controls will connect to the new 8.3 but you wont see any video, as it does decoding differently now among other things. they also disabled directdraw overlay by default so you get blocked video in larger video sizes .. but it is auto enabled when you use their specific control panel modes .. but to get what mode we want (plain one) there is a right click menu that cant be disabled .. and that kills my app obviously.

BUT just last night I figured out a way to beat that and get it to work so I can right click without their menu popup AND get directdraw overlay. Unfortunately though the old app wont work with the new version 8.3xx no matter what though, and i no longer have that code or would even work on that old code. Im working on the new code to get it working for 8.3 now that I know I have a fix. I had version 7 that worked up to 8.2 almost ready to role out besides the admin code ... then came 8.3 and killed it all! LOL.

As for the web pages you can just swap out the activeX for the new one .. ok not as simple as that but it is pretty easy. The liveX code is about the same, different ID, only thing is as it is you will have blocked video .. there is one more line that has to be added ...

LiveX.SetGUIMod 3, 0, 0

But beware as a menu pop up will appear everytime you right click.

Additionally, we cant change the background color of the activeX anymore, it will always be "Blue" now. I even tried using API calls but it doesnt like it at all.

I posted about 8.3 webcam issues in the dealer section ...

One thing I noticed the other day when setting up a Geo DVR with 8.3 for the first time (yes I always use 8.12 but my colleague wanted 8.3 as he thinks new is better LOL), was that the webcam has no setting for the codec anymore. I then noticed that is controlled via the webcam activeX control now. This would explain why the 8.2 and earlier ActiveX controls connect fine but show no video, it seems (appears so though I could be mistaken so dont take this as fact) that they no longer do the codec processing for webcam on the DVR side. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=18553

Ive yet to confirm the above though, it was just a first impression.

Rory

well, if i grab an old software CD with the new card, will it take the 8.0 or 8.2 software?

i NEED that web page workaround to work.

i am not able to dig into the details right now, but later on today, i am going to re read your post and see if i can figure something out.

thanks and it is good to see that you are still around.

Rory,

in those internet explorer files i am using, the web page method, you say that all i need to do is add this line to the code?

LiveX.SetGUIMod 3, 0, 0

do i add that anywhere or does it have to be in a specific location?

also, i have the CD with older software on there, can i just downgrade and get rid of 8.3 altogether?

i didnt have any problems with 8.0, i just went with 8.3 because that is what was on the CD when i got the new card. at this point, i need to get the web page method working. i dont care if i need to roll back the dvr card software or go with your fix, but i need to get this resolved ASAP.

thanks for any input, hopefully i hear from you soon.

No, apparently no older software will work with the new cards, only 8.3xx will work with the 8.3 cards. But ive never tried it myself, im just going by what others have said on this forum so far.

crap, well right now i guess i need to

1. try installing the old software on the pc with the new card, unless i find a post where someone confirms that it wont work.

2. if 1 doesnt work then i need to move some DVRs around. i can take the 8.3 dvr and move it to a location that i dont need to connect to it via the web file. then i can take that DVR and move it to this location where i have a few people that connect to view the cameras via the html file.

when you say the quality is bad with 8.3, how bad is bad?

i mean, goes it just look like garbage?

thanks

so far it looks horid. but i might be missing something, doubtful but maybe there is something else i need to enable or turn on that didnt have to do with older versions .. which isnt in their SDK help and samples .. to get better quality. Also maybe the quality just sucks with the older cards.

update-

i was able to swap the newer DVR with an older DVR running the 8.2 software.

the html file works with 8.2 but not 8.3. luckily for me, the 8.3 DVR is in a location where i dont need to view remotely.

i hope the 8.3 issues are resolved.

IMO appart from a couple minor workable bugs, i feel 8.12 was their best version. Stable and Fast and the remote video is good quality. Soon as they went the IP camera route they messed everything up.
