ClosedCircuitCom 0 Posted April 5, 2005 is it possible to combine 2 ATA100 HD's to make it look like one, example: two 300 gig hd's will show up as 600 gig on C: drive. if so what would i need to do?
Thomas 0 Posted April 5, 2005 Two types of options here. One is software spanning. The other is raid. Lets toss the software spanning out the window for now. So that leaves raid. For two drives you want Raid 0 or JBOD. To do it you need a motherboard or a raid card.
VJD 0 Posted April 5, 2005 One thing to keep in mind about Raid 0 is that it is not fault-tolerant. If one drive fails you lose ALL your data. Make sure you back up regularly!
Thomas 0 Posted April 5, 2005 With two drives, you won't get much fault tolerance no matter how you do it, unless you use RAID 1.
ClosedCircuitCom 0 Posted April 5, 2005 any idea where to find a cheap RAID 0 card for a ata100 hd? also a model number would be helpful

VJD 0 Posted April 5, 2005 I assume the reason you want to do this is because you already have the two drives?

Thomas 0 Posted April 6, 2005 Seagate has been tossing rumors out about an upcomming 600 GB drive and Hitachi is promising a terrabyte by 2007. I guess all that work they did on the mini drives for the IPods is paying off.
cctv_down_under 0 Posted April 7, 2005 why do you need to combine the drives?
