get solid copper center 95% copper shield (braid) Rg-59 we have also used RG-6 quad shield. unless you are running long distance more than 800 ft either will work. we usually run siamese rg 59 for most installs. Sometimes the 59 is more expensive than the six as less single 59 is sold these days.

Yup, RG-59 is used 99% of the time.

I always use RG-59, 95% copper conductor and braid. RG6 is for cable TV and Sat dish which use higher frequencies to transmit the data. Video signals are at a lower frequency and run better in RG-59. RG59 has a little less signal reduction, or attenuation, over 100 feet. I mostly use RG-59 siamise wire with my power conductors too.

 

To many cable brands, most are imported generic boxes that I buy at a major supplier. Try to buy from local dealer so if you have any issues you can go to them. I've never ad a roll of wire I didn't like...except for a CAT5 reel that you couldn't see the color codes!

i'm not that well up on video signal (used to RF) but RG6 is better than RG59. simply lower wire resistance over long runs.

most of the time RG59 is fine unless your doing massive long runs and RG59 is cheaper.

 

brands, for longer runs avoid cheap stuff. you can get under sized centre conductor and poor insulation. for short runs the difference between brands will be barely measurable.

lower frequency's rely a lot more on the shield and the quality of the insulation between centre core and shield.

typically the insulation is foam but air core is common in some markets. however it can be different size cable and require different sized connectors. i personally don't like air core due to moisture being able to run down the inside of the cable.

 

i have seen another cable used which is smaller than RG59. often twisted centre conductor. no idea on specs etc.
