missmimi 0 Posted December 20, 2009 Hi everyone, What is Full D1 compression? Is is very powerful? Thanks..
thewireguys 3 Posted December 20, 2009 D1 is a resolution. 704x576 (TV PAL) 704x480 (TV NTSC) MJpeg, Mpeg-4 and h.264 are compressions.
survtech 0 Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Or... 720x480 (NTSC) 720x576 (PAL) In analog, a full screen width is 720 pixels but that includes the horizontal blanking bar. The actual displayed area is 704 pixels. Edited December 21, 2009 by Guest
missmimi 0 Posted December 26, 2009 Oh.. I see.. Thanks everyone! As for compression, does it mean that an MJPEG compression shows playback in the form of pictures instead of realtime video like in H.264?
survtech 0 Posted December 26, 2009 Yes, M-JPEG is basically a series of JPEG still images. It is still real-time and can run as many frames per second as a streaming codec. h.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, h.263 and others are streaming codecs. Most of the streaming codecs do have the capability of acting just like M-JPEG if their compression is set for I-frame only (vs. IP, IBP, etc.). I-frames are also basically complete JPEG images and B-frames and P-frames are predictive frames that don't contain all picture information.

tesc_cctvpro 0 Posted January 10, 2010 Given the 704 full screen width - many erroneously categorize their DVR's as D1, when they are actually 4CIF. Just a technicality, but one to be aware of in certain cases.
