Motherboard / Chipset Issues

Recommended Posts

It is my intention of purchasing an AVerMedia 6240EXP DVR Card and I would like to build my own system.

While doing research on the card and looking at the system requirements, there appears to be a lot of limitations of what motherboard you can use and the chipset.

The recommendation of several website that sell the card they list "Motherboard with Intel 915, 945, 955, 965, 975 Chipset (VIA/SiS/Ali Chipset motherboards not supported) (Recommended Intel, ASUS, Gigabyte motherboards)."

The problem I'm running into is that I can't find any motherboards that have those chipsets. I did find a couple but they don't have a PCI-E x1.

Somebody said that the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P worked for him for his AV-6480; however that has a P45 Chipset.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard

Our products support most of the current Intel chipset for motherboards.

Intel: 915/945/955/965/975/P31/P35/ P45/X38 chipset

NVIDIA: nForce4 Ultra MCP, nForce 570 SLI, NVIDIA nForce4 SLI Intel chipset

Note: For better performance and system stability we highly recommend using a CSA/ PCI-E Giga Ethernet

infrastructure motherboards. For further information please refer to Intel’s Website. Below is a list of Motherboards

that our Validation labs have tested; however, we do support beyond the motherboards tested in our lab.

So any of these few would work for you I would presume...

This next one is the whole page of Asus P45 choices

Then there is the X38s....

Read up on the limitations from the Avermedia site. Given the choice between Geovision and Avermedia, I would still take Avermedia if going megapixel cameras, or even just one. I do, however, like Geovision for coax cameras for some odd reason.

Best regards

I have a system running two 6480's with the GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard beside me right now. Operates beautiful. Wish the system was mine to keep but it is going to a customer next week.

Slightly off-topic, as I am not using Avermedia cards, but we have been building DVR's and NVR's (30+)for about a year with that Gigabyte board, and not had a bit of trouble....

Usually, I've seen problems when you go outside Intel chipsets (SIS had been a problem) more than between different models of Intel chipsets, as most DVR manufacturers build their systems with Intel in mind.

FWIW, unless they specifically state otherwise, specs like that don't usually mean that the card WON'T work on any other chipsets, only that it's not GUARANTEED to work on them. The "approved" list is typically just a list of chipsets and boards that the system has been tested on and is known to work with... doesn't mean nothing else will work.

And FYI, I've rebuilt Vigil systems on a wide variety of machines using Intel, AMD, SiS, VIA, and assorted other chipsets... haven't yet run into one that doesn't work.

Pretty much any newer intel mobo will work just fine... and a nice cheap ATI 3400 or something like that video card will work just fine.

Hi,

I am on the verge of purchasing an NV5000 but had never seen anywhere on their site about recommended chipsets.

Do you think that it should work ok on this system:

CPU Type - Intel Pentium 4 516, 2933 MHz (22 x 133)

Motherboard - Foxconn 945G7AD/945G7MC/945GC7MC/945GZ7MC/945P7AD/945P7MC/945PL7MC Series

Chipset - Intel Lakeport-G i945GZ

Video Adapter - GeForce 7300 GS (256 MB)

System Memory - 2048 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM)

Cheers
