How long can you send CCTV over RG6 quad?

Recommended Posts

I have an installation which i preformed about 2 years ago using passive/active baluns @ 3000+ feet, I've had nothing but constant issues with the video signal and quality. I would like to replace the installation with COAX.

I'm using WV-CP484 cameras and was thinking of running RG6 QUAD with 12/2 or 14/2 power....

Can i do 3000 feet with RG6 quad? If not what are my other options?

I've tried all types and brands of baluns with NO SUCCESS.

You are probably using low cost transmission equipement.

What you need is a decent launch amp and line corrector.

What cable was originally installed and what state is it in (any joints etc ?)

If you considering running a new cable you should be considering fibre, this will future proof the installation as you can utilise analogue video kit now and move to IP cameras at a later date.

3000 feet is way too far for passive baluns. It is also way too far for RG59, RG6 or possibly even RG11. In fact, it is even too far for twisted-pair with one end active. For that distance, you'll have to use either active-active twisted-pair (an active transmitter and an active receiver) or, like Ilkie says, fiber.
