DVR to PC Connection

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I have a quick question for you guys. The business I work at has a Sanyo DSR-3506 DVR system. There is a portion of video that I need to record from the DVR. I have hooked the DVR into the router via the ethernet port and installed the Sany DVR Viewer software on a PC on the same network. The software cannot see the DVR unit. I know there is a CompactFlash slot on the front, but our monitor doesn't have a good enough picture to be able to navigate the menus to record the correct time block. I can't find the manual here anywhere, and can't find any online. I searched the board and didn't find anything. The system was installed long before I began working here, so I don't know the ins and outs of it. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Have you configured any "port forwarding" in the router for the DVR? Usually a minimum of 2 ports are needed to be setup. One for the DVR's webserver (typically port 80) and the other for control.

Um, guys...

I have hooked the DVR into the router via the ethernet port and installed the Sany DVR Viewer software on a PC on the same network.

Port forwarding doesn't (or shouldn't) come into play here - you shouldn't have to do anything with the router.

Btown, the first thing you need to do is make sure the DVR has an appropriate IP address - if the it wasn't already plugged into the network, chances are it's never been properly configured for the network.

If it's set to use DHCP, it should get an IP from the router. If not, you'll have to configure one on the same subnet as the attached PC. Of course, this will mean using the same crappy monitor to navigate the DVR's menus, so you may need to upgrade the monitor just to do that (or at least plug in a better one temporarily).

The software will then have to be configured with the DVR's IP address.
