Cameras with large IR Leds vs standard size ones?

I've seen cameras with 6 large IR leds and 6 standard size ones. Are these better than lets say 84 standard sized ones?

No, not necessarily. There is more to an Infrared Day Night Camera then just the IR LEDs used.

Gotcha, they are stating a 250FT range on the 6 large/6 small led unit vs. 150FT range on the 84LED camera... Marketing hype?

the big ones are higher powered and can have longer range. one advantage of the large ones is being able to fit lens which tighten the beam giving longer range. not to mention its cheaper to mount a few big led's than 84 small ones which can offset the higher cost of the larger led's.

Just remember most of those ranges are hyped for sales pitches.

As for the larger LEDs, ive used alot of long range Extreme CCTV gear and they had small LEDs.
