Moisture in Dome (foggy)

Recommended Posts

I am experiencing a foggy dome inside a PTZ camera that has heater and blower. It appears to fog even if the temperature is above freezing or below freezing. I was told by one person that the heater might be too warm and another told me that the dome might not be tight enough. I have since made sure that the dome was good and tight-any suggestions or experiences?

First thing is to look for and seal any other places moisture may be getting in - possibly through a mounting point or fitting. If you're punching through a wall directly to the warm inside air, it's also likely that that warm, moist air is getting inside the dome.

Once you know all possible leaks are sealed, open the camera up on a DRY day (and I mean DRY) and allow it to air out as much as possible... then reassemble it with a small desiccant pack inside (you know, those little baggies of silica beads that come packed with most electronics - those are designed to absorb several times their own weight in water).

I will try both of your remedies; one more question: Could it be possible that I do not need the heater and it is the heater that is causing the moisture by keeping the inside too hot for my Washington DC area?

i had this same problem from installing a heated camera in a Freezer at a local hospital.. I tried anti fog spray, unplug heater and other things... i found that a bullet camera is the best thing in a situation like this...
