b3n 0 Posted February 3, 2010 Hello, I've never worked with CCTV systems and would be grateful for your help. BACKGROUND: I work for a non-profit bird rescue organization in Arizona. We are seeking to set up live webcams around our facility for streaming to the web. The facility itself is located on several acres with distinct aviaries and buildings spread out over the property. Here is some relevant INFO: We have about 6-8 large aviaries that we would like covered. We would like to have video AND audio for each camera. The distance between each aviary and the main control location (our office) varies between 50 ft - 400 ft. We are in a rural location and our internet bandwidth is very limited ( max upload 512 Kbps). Per my research, this is the system that I have in mind: -8 Day/Night Cameras w/microphone connected to an 8 channel DVR using direct burial RG59 cables and powered by a distributed power supply box. -DVR sends video and audio out to a PC capture device. -Use VHScrCap (free software) on PC to capture video from DVR and Adobe Flash Media Encoder to stream feed to the web (ideally via free webcam site such as justin.tv or ustream.tv) NOTE: Our office PC is a slimline desktop and only has half-size PCI slots. Unless I'm mistaken, most, if not all DVR capture cards such as Geovision are full PCI ones?? This is the reason I am going with a standalone DVR and then using a USB capture device to capture the video. Here are my questions: 1. First of all, do you see any point of failures or flaws in the system I have described? 2. Assuming that I need a separate microphone to go with each camera, how would I go about connecting the microphones to the DVR and powering them? Ideally we would like to power the cameras from the power supply box so that we don't have to install new electrical connections in each aviary. Can I use a separate RG59 cable from the power supply box with BNC to RCA adaptors for the microphones? 3. Which DVRs can you recommend that have 8 ch video AND 8 ch audio inputs? If I have a DVR that has only 1 audio input, couldn't I in theory connect all my microphones to an audio switcher box and then feed it into the DVR audio input? I would then only have to switch to the correct audio input on the switcher box if I wanted to monitor that channel. 4. Camera recommendations? We don't have a budget but ideally I would like to keep the cost for the whole system under $1500, is that realistic? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Securitymaster 0 Posted February 16, 2010 I really hate when manufacturers try to push their products when someone is asking a question....... But to answer a bit I really recommend you choose the DVR card that will suit your needs, and then get a new PC that would meet the specs that the DVR card calls for. Now, the one thing I do recommend is that you get one that supports h.264, as it will give you a faster and better quality video over the web, but, Audio I really can't say, since Audio is Illegal to install here in Connecticut, so I don't have much experience with it. Good luck....
thewireguys 3 Posted February 16, 2010 you could also use a video encoder so you don't have to have a PC running all the time if you don't plan on recording. http://www.acti.com/product/detail/Video_Server/ACD-2300
