Camera and install advice

Recommended Posts

Hello CCTVforum. Basically, I'm needing to get a camera(s) up and running by this weekend so time is of the essence. To make a long story short, my dad had a stroke and is leaving the nursing home Saturday to move into our basement. My mom would like a camera in the basement where if she is upstairs she can simply flip to a channel and monitor him in case of falls etc. I know nothing about cctv equipment but should be able to install it without much trouble. I'm needing help on which camera to purchase and what accessories if any will be needed. I'm on a tight budget so it doesn't have to be anything special. Can be wired or wireless if the wireless technology works fine through 2 floors. There isn't much natural light being that it is a basement with like 1 window. Would be nice to have an expandable system for in the future if we want to hook it up to a dvr, add camera's, etc. Thanks with any help and advice.

The quickest and easiest solution I can think of is one of the wireless Baby monitoring cameras. The issue with these is that they are only viewable from a PC (or Mac). I don't know how you would get the output to a TV.

They are not great in low light, but they might be acceptable.

Here are two samples. from a Panasonic BL-C121 (I think). The dark one is early (7:30am), just after the interior lights were turned off and I think before the camera fully adjusted. That window on the left is west facing, so the room is pretty dim. The other one is just before 1PM. The blinds are still closed and filter a good amount of light. The room is moderately lit - you'd want more light to read a newspaper comfortably.

I've had horrible experience with wireless. Do you guys have a wireless router? Where is it, close to the basement? If so... I've got a couple ideas.

If not, I still have a couple ideas.
