G22 0 Posted April 14, 2005 This is what a Pan rep told me today at their yearly sale... that their DVR's now run embedded Linux? Is this correct? If it would not surprise me if it were not, as I can honestly say I knew more about DVR's and CCTV than this particual 'rep', and I have only been into it briefly for a few months now. Perhaps he was an installer, don't know. He could not even answer simple questions like like what size HD was installed, frame rate, etc.
MetzLyov 0 Posted April 14, 2005 Panasonic have tried and failed using Linux based solutions before, however the discussion still exists. I very much dout that they will, as I met with the actual designers of their DVRs before (from Japan) and they prefer working with their own developed language and make their DVRs embeded... I think what that "rep" was trying to relay that he heard that Panasonic was/is/may be working on Linux based and this information have been around in the last 5 years.... I have not seen it nor asked if Panasonic's latest units are based on Linux... If you want, I can check and let you know. Levon
