Guest Posted February 16, 2010 Hello, I am buying a new CCTV system with the configuration below. And i must write a contract between supplier and our company. As you are not a technical specialist in CCTV you should define your operational requirement and state in your document that the responsibility for the system specification and design should be with the Contractor and should meet or exceed this requirement. A good document is http://scienceandresearch.homeoffice.gov.uk/hosdb/publications/cctv-publications/28_09_CCTV_OR_Manual0425.html?view=Standard&pubID=635835 So if you wish the system to see a number plate at 40m in all weather conditions, make this a condition of contract and only accept the system when this is demonstrated to you. Confirm the period for retention of recording, and how to extract evidence. Make sure that the system design meets all guidelines and regulations that may apply in your country. Make sure training and system documentation is included in the contract. Define the warrantee period (should be three years I would say) and ask them what the maintenance costs would be over that period. Check that the warrantee includes hard disks as these have a life of three years before they fail plus that the manufacturer will support larger disks as the original ones may be discontinued. Hope this helps Ilkie
