Cant connect DVR remotelyviainternet afer DDNS update new ip

Recommended Posts

im using Belkin ADSL modem with build in g wireless router (f5d7634-4). i connect my

DVR cctv recorder, so i can see my cctv feed through internet. I have set

up my DDNS and virtual server (port forwarding) setting, and i am able to

see my cctv feed through internet. (no computer connected to the router)

But when my isp changes my ip and the router DDNS automatically update my

new ip to my hostname, i can't get connected to my DVR, but if i restart my router,

every thing works normaly.

so i check my dyndns account if my router doesn't update my new ip

properly, but in my host services detail, i can see that my new ip is

listed in my host name.

i even have tried put my DVR in the DMZ list, i still can't connect my DVR,

every time DDNS update my new ip to DYNDNS.

any solution for my problem??

best,

henry

What model DVR are you using? Does the DVR have it's own DYNDNS updater program? If so, try using it verses the router's update program.

hi harrar, thx for replying

i'm using xsj 3116 DVR. yes it have it's own DDNS updater program. but i use router DDNS updater program.

so do u suggest if use router DDNS updater program to update xxxx.dyndns.org hostname

and use DVR DDNS updater program to update yyyy.dyndns.org hostname at the same time??

is that what do you mean??

I would first disable the router's DDNS updater program and just use the DVR's updater. You mentioned there are no other computers on this router so just let the DVR request the IP updates for itself.

It's been my experience that some routers update programs do a poor job with DYNDNS. An option might be to go to the Belkin website and seeing if there are any firmware updates for your particular router or check their support page on this issue.

ok, i'll try it.

but as far as i know, if i update DDNS from equipment behind the router, then my local ip address will be updated to the DYNDNS, not my WAN ip address.

am i right ?? is there some router configuration should i change??

All the Geovision and Dynacolor DVR's we have installed run their own or DYNDNS updater programs behind the router without difficulty. We never use the router's updater. Just assign a static IP to your DVR.

In the router, disable DDNS. Under Firewall, select Virtual Server and enter the DVR's static IP and the private and public ports that your DVR requires (at minimum 80 unless your unit uses something else). Check Enable then reboot your router and you should be good to go.

ahh i see, so the problem is on my DDNS update prosess, not from my isp if they blocks some ports.

oh there is one more thing, what if my DVR dont have DDNS updater and i'm not be able to put a computer connected to the router ??

currently my DVR have its own DDNS updater, im wandering if someday i use DVR that dont have its own DDNS updater.

thx Harrar ^^

You're correct, vulture, the problem appears to be updater program and since you can reestablish a connection after rebooting your router, it would appear its updater program is not up to the task. If your ISP was blocking the http port you would not have been able to access your DVR over the net as you stated in your first post. Also I as unable to find any info on the model router you listed on the Belkin website.

As for your DVR, there's no guarantee that it's updater is any better. Haven't been able to find much info on it.

For future reference, if you purchase a DVR and require remote access, make sure it has that capability, either its own DDNS service like dipmap for Geovision or a working DYNDNS updater program. The only other option left is to buy a cheap netbook computer, attach it to your router and download the updater program from DYNDNS or whomever and let it handle the updates.

before i restart my router, i checked my DDNS account, i can see my new ip has been listed on my hostname. even though my ip has been listed on my hostname, is there any posibilities that my DDNS updater program fails to update my new ip??

Try these:

1. put dvr ip in dmz

2. add dvr ip in virtual servers (beg/end port = 80)

3. allow remote management (in system settings) for port 80

It worked for me.

Does anyone know if in order to DDNS to work in a router with dyndns it's necessary that the ISP provides more than one DNS? Or one is enough?

Thank you

Simple answer, one DNS server should be sufficient.

Is your internet service going directly into your modem/router or is the router connected to your ISP-supplied modem? If it's directly into your router than the info they gave you for setting up PPPoE or if you have a static IP, is all you need. If plugged in to their modem and your router is set to obtain IP automatically, check your status page for the proper DNS servers detected.

Thank you for your answer.

What I want is to access remotely a dvr. I would use the Netgear MBR624GU router with 3G Broadband internet.

As the connection provided by the ISP has a dynamic ip, I asked them if I could use the router DDNS function with dyndns. They answered that they could not provide that function because they only have one DNS. I found I strange, that's why I asked.

That would be the only router I would use.

So in theory I would be able to use router's DDNS function?

In theory, you should have no problem using the router's DDNS updater. The only question would be if Netgear's updater program works properly. Check their website to make sure you're using the lastest version firmware and if there are any bugs listed on their support page.
