bpzle 0 Posted February 19, 2010 I haven't done much "hidden" camera work. I prefer to stay away from that sticky PI mess... But, we did put some board cameras in what looked like decorative flower baskets/ sconces for the wall. The lenses were camouflaged by the center black part of a sun flower. They were put up behind the registers in a retail store.
bpzle 0 Posted February 19, 2010 I want to know how Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" hides their cameras... There's always so many angles!
survtech 0 Posted February 19, 2010 These are among my favorite covert lenses: High Tech Pinhole Laparoscopic Lenses Lots of other options too. Look up "covert cameras".

scorpion 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Hello! For body worn the "pager" cam is my favorite. You can stand facing a bar, but get video 90 degrees from you. You do not have to be looking at your target to video them. Here is my fence post cam. http://scorpiontheater.com/cvr.aspx Here is a textured pelican cased camera. http://scorpiontheater.com/game.aspx I use bird houses, dog houses, fake water pump enclosures with pipes pointed to the ground that go nowhere, and I have cut holes in those commercial light packs that you see on the walls to hide a cam. You can retro fit an orange cooler so that the cam looks out from under the lid, and you have full 360 degree view. Up and down is limited, but a truck with ladders looks great in some places where an suv would stand out and draw attention. My favorite is the motion detector cam. scorpion 0 Posted February 21, 2010 AK357, Since you are always dealing in cutting edge technology lets see if you have anything new. Here in Palm Bay we are dealing with another round of Arson Fires. http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20100216/NEWS01/2160331/1086/Palm+Bay+calls+more+fires+arson What do you have that I can stick on a telephone pole, or a tree that will give me something get recording. It can be wireless, or I can get the cable company to activate a modem at the pole. Darn power company wants to charge $250 to set up power at the pole. Any ideas? I am also working on a portable and/or pole solution but as of right no it doesn't have to be hidden. A Mobotix camera with a SD card, embedded 3g modem and a small IP66 housing and your done. You can also use a small solar setup do you don't need power. I would like to use this for hidden setups. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/content/view/full/37540 Edited February 22, 2010 by Guest

Suggest you try something like this. It has been used with great sucess in the UK. However some have known to have ended up in the trash cart! http://www.melsecuresystems.co.uk/flytipping.html Ilkie
scorpion 0 Posted February 22, 2010 thewireguys, I like that product! What kind of solar setup have you used to power these systems? ilk, That is very intereting product. I wonder what the switching times are from detector/trigger to the product, and the wake up time, and the recoring time? _____________________________ I have used concrete before. I had to have a granite company cut a blob so I could hollow it out. I have used tree branches with product inside with a screw at the end. I just jam it in to a tree, and twist it in. I then pray no kids decide to go tree climbing!!
C.O.P. 0 Posted February 22, 2010 I was thinking about using the telephone poles by my house for camera locations but I assumed it would be a "no-no". Around here, you're not even supposed to staple signs to the poles... nails and staples can cause the pole climber spikes to slip... since they use bucket trucks these days, maybe it would be ok. Have any of you used telephone company poles? Maybe I'll have to make a few calls.

Yes you will need a permit and a electrician to put stuff on the polls I would NOT just go and hang a box with out one. How are you going to get power? hardwired 0 Posted February 22, 2010 I have some on poles, but they are for a governmental entity, and they have to get a warrant before they install them. As far as power, there are power taps that connect under the photocell on the streetlight and give you a regular outlet.

Yes you will need a permit and a electrician to put stuff on the polls I would NOT just go and hang a box with out one. How are you going to get power? The particular pole I was thinking of using is the one that has the leads for my cable and phone lines. I planned to "piggy-back" the power line along those lines then down the pole in some conduit. After some inquiries, I canned this plan. Basically, the camera could be considered "abandoned property" unless I take the proper steps (I don't want to) and 2nd I figure people would be more likely to mess with the camera if they think it belongs to one of the utility companies. I may toss a dummy camera up there in the future though. For now I'll stick to by my fence.
Securame 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Just subscribing to the thread. I have several customized hidden cameras, in my own shop I have 16 of them, over half customized. I will try to posts pics this next week!
Securame 0 Posted March 8, 2010 Here are some pics, 5 custom hidden cameras! Cam1 - Hidden on monitor. We removed one of the speakers, and mounted the camera inside. It uses one of the existing holes on the monitor frame, so you can not notice anything from the outisde. Cam2 - Hidden on a screw. Not the pre-made screw, but one from the wall, so it is exactly the same as all the other ones. Cam3 - Hidden on the air conditioning unit. You can barely notice a very small hole if you look for it. Cam4 - Hidden on the alarm keypad. It is a non functional alarm keypad from an old alarm, it still has the 2 batteries from the old keypad to power the green led. Cam5 - Hidden on emergency exit light. The emergency light is functional. If you check the first picture (monitor), you will also see this camera in there, the one with name "LUZEMERG", you can see me in there taking the picture
scorpion 0 Posted March 8, 2010 Nice job! I quit buying the premade covert exit signs has they never would pass fire code. I prefer to use the original if time permits, or I buy the new LED style. It is fun trying to stuff a cameras in places. I love the " Wow, how did you install it in there"? Have you ever done fiber cameras?
thewireguys 3 Posted March 8, 2010 Nice work Mindtwist!! " title="Applause" /> What cameras did you use?
Securame 0 Posted March 8, 2010 It is fun trying to stuff a cameras in places. I love the " Wow, how did you install it in there"?Have you ever done fiber cameras? Yeah, always better to insert the camera on something that really doesn't stand out on whatever place you are installing it, than to just use a pre-made hidden camera that woulnd't fool half of us around here hehe I have never used fiber cameras. Nice work Mindtwist!! " title="Applause" /> What cameras did you use? We used this cameras. This one is Sony CCD 1/3 B&W 600TVL, low lux. It is the one on the air conditioning unit, and the alarm keypad. The microphone is unused. This is the one on the monitor and screw. I have several models, so I do not know for sure what sensor they have, but they are both colour cameras, I think 420tvl. And this is the one inside the emergency light. Also 420tvl, it does have colour, even on the picture seems to be B&W. It actually goes a little bit on the ceiling, so it would get some angle and point to the ground.
