This place claims to be giving away a free wireless spy camera to a random Facebook fan.

The possiblitlies are there.

 

I would doubt it. Once you click then they have your profile. This could be a marketing tool based on your postings, and games that you play, and what you "fan", or "cause" you take.

 

What could be worse is that they get your profile, and all of your friends also.

 

The bad is that you get a virus, and get some spyware if lucky, or trojans if you are very unlucky!

 

I would avoid the link, but then again they have an address, and a phone number so they look legit!

 

 

 

Those that are computer buffs can take a blank OS and click on it and then run scanners to see what pops up.

 

If it is clean then it is legit marketing.

Virus writers appear to have cracked McAfee.

 

If you have Norton 360 then get rid of it. If you have the latest Nortons then you are good.

Virus Writers can get around ANY Anti-malware application.

I had to remove Nortons manually a few times recently (to install AVG HA HA) .. its not that hard, even though its probably the most difficult one to remove. If you can do it manually, its even easier to remove it using code. Once they cripple the anti-malware program then the sky is the limit for them ..!

 

I dont think I would be using a Microsoft Anti-malware program any time soon though ... I just dont trust them enough

Any "free" software is going to have issues.

 

MS appears to have "wider" definitions for virus detection.

 

I like how the virus writers now include software in their bugs to block you from going to the various scanner sites.

In the case of AVG and AVGfree, it is still their full software which others pay for, but minus support, and minus additional add on modules such as some added malware protection .. other wise .. its all I use now .. never had a problem .. also use it to clean PCs ... I cant speak for the wider definitions though. I know that several infected PCs ive been to had MacAfee on it, but cant say if they had been updated recently or not. But there is alot more to cleaning a PC of malware then just an anti-virus or anti-malware program so I dont solely depend on them anyway .. we use cleaners and also have to many times go deep into the registry and really manually clean the drive up good, depending how infected the system is.

We have seen an obcene amount of PC's infected that have McAfee!

 

I do not know what the story is, but I am guessing that they sat down, and reversed engineered it, or something.

 

Alot of the PC's are also coming with infections, but they have old versions, and have not updated their software, such as AVG, Avast, and many others.

 

Norton 360 is such a big hog! The new Norton antivirus is pretty good.

Facebook is ok, but the "fans of...", and sign up for a "cause" appears to be fake, and have nothing to do with what they appear to represent. There is a lot of "fan of.." for Farmville, but they are not created by Farmville.

 

We crack up with the "I do not know how I got the virus"! We then look at the cookies, and WOW! Sorry guys, but I cannot type the URLs that we find on the cookies on to this forum!

Its all over the code forums anyway ... in fact I think I posted alot of it in the past, and im sure some of the code examples are even on my website, but its also used for legit reasons! Also alot of that can be done manually in the registry. Many times when fixing PCs loaded with malware Ive still had to manually go in the registry and fix some things which the Anti-malware apps dont fix. Dont worry I am no genius, I still have to use google sometimes to find where in the registry some things are

Facebook i stay clear of anyway ..

Still so many come from Porn and Free game sites ... and alot of free software is plagued with adware or malware, even some of the well known players, they like to include toolbars left and right and make it hard to click No dont install ! Many get it as easy as being on a chat site and clicking a link someone posts, and then using an IE or FF vulnerable version or with some other plugin that is broken, they get infected. I mean click OK to cancel or Exit to close.. so they click OK and then WHAP!!

Funniest one is the client that calls you and admits they were browsing porn sites and they say the PC is a little slow .. something about a red exclamation mark and a popup about buying some internet security thingy, bout how they used that internet security thingy to "scan" their drive for "malware" .. but they never installed that internet security thingy .. it just magically appeared one day

You guys ever try Hiren's Boot CD? it has been pretty handy for me, a lot of times having a bootable disk to run A/V, anti-spyware, etc, makes it a lot easier than trying to run a cleaner on a live system, especially cleaning rootkits.

 

Or do you guys have any other favorite "big stick" to beat the demons out with?

If I go that route, its normally bartpe .. otherwise I like to get down and dirty and do it manually or run scripts I write on the fly ...
