Tweak strip down bare bones - windows XP based DVR

Recommended Posts

I searched until I'm tired. I recall a listing that Rory provided showing us how to strip down XP to bare bones to improve performance and security.

Anyone know where it's at, or have tips for me. I'm rebuilding my Windows XP Geovision PC.

Thank you

Mike

Hi Mike

The thread was removed as I cannot vouch for 8.3 versions which seem to have alot of "issues"compared to previous versions, and also more persons have begun to use Windows 7 which the article was not made for. Original version here though, still good for XP:

though additionally I have setup XP with even less services, and Geo 8.12 has been fine for a long time on those DVRs. One can use my eServices tweak app and at the minimal just check the firewall and audio boxes and it should perform good. I also changed the desktop and startmenu items but that could be a personal customization anyway based on the installer. So essentially the only real change are the services.

If unsure one could do a full XP install and just do the other tweaks.

Dont forget the Recovery DVD or Recovery USB/SDCard.
