Avtech 796 lack of email / ftp image or video

Hi

I am new to this forum and am impressed with the information I have seen which was helpful

 

I have bought a new Avtech 796D DVR and hardware wise it seems pretty good but on the software or documentation side I am running into a problem

 

The system is set up to to run remotely and to send an email (and ftp) when 'motion' is detected

However all I get sent by email or ftp is an alert message reporting a trigger

Accessing from the email is a link back to the DVR which works - however obviously this is a security problem as anyone can run off with (or destroy) the dvr and information is lost.

 

I guess I must have missed something but what?

Set up Video Viewer on a remote PC and enable recording. You can click on the film reel icon.

 

You will want to use a good computer, and you will need to upsize the hard drive in the PC.

I don't have a static PC I can leave on all the time,

If I left a static pc on all the time why bother with the DVR

I only have my laptop which I switch on when travelling around the country

I just need the facility to email or ftp the video or jpg result

I miss understand.

 

If someone stole your DVR you said that you will wanted to have video remotely stored.

Email photos require JPEG. Your DVR is an 8 channel DVR using H.264.

I needed clarification on this. Are you saying that you would use a PC based surveillance card instead of a stand alone DVR? If someone stole this PC then how would you maintain video?

 

Perhaps you are making a request, and I do not have all of the information to provide the proper advice. I guess I have failed miserably!

 

Any commercial DVR can provide your requests. Perhaps you can trade in your residential model for a commercial product?

 

How is your DVR stored? Do you have it in a lock box?

Ok

I can understand your point about H264 and jpg format

but in that case

1) Why does the configuration ask about the size of Jpeg

Or

2) Why doesn't it send the video clip via ftp

I think our last notes must have crossed - sorry

My old system used to send an email plus a jpeg

I needed to upgrade to improve picture quality and the number of cameras that could be attached

The Avtech generally seemed to cover what I required

However at the moment all I can get is an email saying an event has been triggered (OK but a security risk)

Older Avtech models seem to cater for the requirement either via email or ftp

I can't think they have gone backwards hence I thought I must have set the dvr up incorrectly

a picture with in the email is a lost option.

 

I do not know how to send a picture with H.264.

 

JPEG being a series of "photos" would allow one to be sent with a full picture.

 

H.264 is only a change in motion, and it "updates" the new "snapshot" with the new movement, and it leaves out all of the details. This is how the compression is so tight. Less information, and better storage, or bandwith.

 

I do not have a solution for your DVR.

 

The newer DVRs are catering to the "Iphone" crowd, and Eagle Eyes from the Apple store will proved live viewing on the IPhone.

 

Do you know any programmers who work with H.264 that can create something?
