serverguy 0 Posted April 2, 2010 Is it possible to have a Mobotix M12D camera with a 1.3MP B&W lens and a 3MP Colour lens, with different focal lengths (tele on the B&W and 22mm on the Colour) and record from them both at the same time? Or is it just one lens or the other? Thanks
thewireguys 3 Posted April 2, 2010 yes you can order different lenses and yes you can record both images at the same time. Normally you would order different lens with the same sensors so say what to cover a parking lot that has light at night. One lens would be wide and the other telephoto so you can have a overall shot and get LPs at the entrance with one camera. But keep in mind you will have slightly reduced frame rates when you record both imagers at the same time.
Voipmodo 0 Posted April 2, 2010 Also please note that it most cases a lens setup with different focal lengths on the m12 will take about 3-4 weeks as they have to build them special order in germany. Last one we did took a little over 4 weeks.
serverguy 0 Posted April 2, 2010 Thanks for the replies guys. A few other questions.. I was thinking last night that the D12 Dual Dome cameras would be proably better for my setup and more discrete, and I believe these can work in the same way. And they are slightly cheaper, and I can change the lenses myself. Second thing was, how likely do you think it is that a D12 with the 135 lens on it would be able to pick up car numberplates at 50 metres? Wout this be possible with bother colour and B&W lenses? I was suggested it is possible by my dealer but am a little wary.

The D12 would be a good choice. Much more flexability in setting up views. We installed one for a customer who wanted overview and to monitor vehicle plates for those entering a salt shed. Found that the color 135 gave us a much better shot than the b/w. Two considerations though: the angle of the lens to the vehicle area and focusing. There is a slight variation in focus with the dome cover off and on. We were told to set the focus and then back out the lens from a 16th to an 8th turn before putting the cover back. Can be a real pain.
