Dome Lens Replacement

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to replace a lens on a CNB VBM-24VF with a Megapixels, f=3.0~8mm, F1.0, DC Auto Iris, CS Mount: model number M13VG308? I am just wondering if this would make a difference in the image quality/light sensitivity as this is f1.0 v f1.2 for stock lens.

In that case, its highly unlikely, most fixed domes only support microvarifocal lenses, and thats a standard lens.

The CS mount would be for a box camera/full sized unit. Domes usually incorporate the little board lenses ( I think 5.5mm in diameter?).

And a word in general to replacing lenses in dome cams--if they have IR illuminators you are asking for trouble. The ir is set for the "stock" lens--start putting a wide-angle in there and you are asking for glare issues or spot effect.

The CNBs noted don't have IR.

And no, you can't put a CS mount lens on those cameras. In addition to the smaller lens mount on the camera (the only domes I've used that take CS-mount lenses are the Arecont AV3155DNs), most CS lenses would be too deep to fit inside the dome.

You'd get about a 1/3-stop increase in light going from f/1.2 to f/1.0, not really enough to be worth messing with it.

Normally, the small dome camera use "S" mount, other then the C/CS mount used for box camera. "S" mount means a female M12 thread. and C/CS mount means 1 -1/32 UNF thread, they are not interchangeable. you can find some adapter which can take S mount lens for a C/CS mount camera. however, I've never seen any adapter which can take C/CS mount lens for a "S" mount camera.

And Do not expect too much from a Megapixel lens in a standard resolution camera.
