teflondon100 0 Posted May 5, 2010 I have just installed a new digital watchdog ptz, along with a new digital watchdog dvr. When I pan, the camera looses video most of the time. Then when I stop the camera has to focus and I regain video. This is my first time installing a ptz. The camera sets 75 ft from the power supply, I have powered the cam with 18/2, and I am using cat5 for the rs485. I have tried a different power supply with the same results. Any ideas. ps I am new the the site and want to say hello, and thank you in advance for any help.
Soundy 1 Posted May 5, 2010 What power supplies are you using? 12VDC or 24VAC? If DC, are the regulated? What current rating?
teflondon100 0 Posted May 5, 2010 they are 12 volt arms boxes. I am almost sure they are regulated.
Soundy 1 Posted May 5, 2010 What current capacity are they? Chances are, it's not enough for the cameras - once the motor fires up, the voltage drops, and the camera resets.
teflondon100 0 Posted May 5, 2010 I am not 100% sure. I think the arms security box is rated at 4 watts. I will call where I bought them to find out. The cam is duel voltage, Should I try a 24vac power supply with a higher watt. What does it usually take to power a ptz with a heater and fan. The book says the cams rated power is AC 24v(23w) / DC 12v(26w).
hayden 0 Posted May 6, 2010 It does sound like the power supply is not up to the job. Try getting higher rated power supply.
