The problem with this is you are limited to what type of cable provisions and what spares are inside the traveller cable that is already installed between the car and machine room. You are not going to be installing any new cable. So, the simplest solution for you is to use the extra pair of COM cables that is used for the phone and a set of baluns. This is where you need to get the elevator service company involved as this question is more suited to them and your specific installation.

In the UK we request that a cable such as 4004TPC is installed by the lift contractor and it is a flat pVC cable 2 x T/Q 4xT/S/P Coax to BS EN 50214 This is a 17 core 2 x unscreened quad 0.75mm, 4 x screened pair 0.75mm, 1 x Coax HFFR75 ohm cable with a halogen free sheath. The cable is 47mm wide and 8mm thick! Hope this helps Ilkie
Soundy 1 Posted May 8, 2010 Last elevator install we did, the A/V contractor had a Cat5e cable added to the traveler to run his three 7" displays (via component video baluns). We used the fourth pair for a camera feed. If there's power available on the elevator roof (which there should be), all you need is a single pair, twisted or not. A spare pair in the emergency-phone cable should suffice.

I'm not sure how cost effective this would be if one had to retrofit and piggyback an existing traveler cable on older elevators.
SDM Group 0 Posted May 16, 2010 This can turn into quite an expensive item., Suggest you call the elevator company for them to determine what type of cables exist. There is a security package cable for the traveling cable that they can supply. Also they will need to come in to over ride the elevators during installs. Might want to think about elevator lobby cameras if the expense is to much. Also for 22 stories you need to think about voltage drop, depending on where you are powering, and signal degredation, especially if the DVR is on the ground floor. I would power the cameras from the elevator cab roof.
bigbuilding 0 Posted October 20, 2010 We isntalled the cctv cable outside the traveling cable and therefore more likely to failure. When cables started failing we were faced with 2 options replace CCTV cable outside the elevator traveling cable for a couple thousand or the permanent fix of installing an additional traveling cable with cctv cable enclosed for about 10 times the cost.
