Can I use this older ccd telecamera?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a Howard Industries, Inc, Color CCD Telecamera Model HA5900-B DC 12v 180ma-IP

It was brand new in a sealed box for three dollars at the thrift store. Came with a 12vdc switch mode transformer. There was no paperwork in the box at all. Looked like the box may have been a part of a larger package that this got separated from.

I got it because it had such an interesting lens. It looks like a really suprisingly high quality screw mount lens.

I can't get any info on how to hook it up to my one year old HP 8510 Workstation laptop. I can no longer find the manufacturer online. Last mention of them is in the mid nineties. I don't know if this unit needs drivers. I can't even find info on how to hook up a ccd with a single RCA cable. I can't even find verification online that "S-Video" out ever was even configured through a 3.5mm RCA chassis connection. Is the 15 year old camera chip behind the lens so obsolete that the unit is not really worth more than three bucks anyway? Strange, it looks so new.

There is a single female RCA jack on the back marked "S-Video".

The RCA jack is marked video, the S-Video slot is not being used. Should be able to plug it into a monitor to see video

I saw your post on the Howard ha5900-b ccd telecamera from last year. Any chance it is available? I need a replacement. FYI the camera was used by Brunswick in an Instant Replay application for bowling training purposes. I am the gm here, don't really know much about this stuff. If the camera is not available do you know if there might be a substitute.

Jim Thatcher Thanks.
