qman 0 Posted May 2, 2005 I'm setting up a couple of PC'S, and the hard drives are 160gig, but when I do the setup of XP pro, it only recognizes 131, I know what natively, 131 is the limit for recognizion, but how can I overcome this? Thanks
rory 0 Posted May 2, 2005 this is old but: Accessing disk space beyond 137GB requires two working criteria: chipset BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) program and operating system that support 48-bit LBA. For Windows 2000, it must be the version with Service Pack 3 (SP-3) or higher. For Windows XP, it must be SP-1 (those that were released in Aug 2002). For Linux, its kernel version has to be 2.4.16 or higher. http://www.dealtime.com/xPR-Seagate_Barracuda_7200_7_Plus_160_GB_ST3160023A~RD-136859979396

scottj 0 Posted May 2, 2005 Are you trying to upgrade to XP Pro from a machine that currently has 2000? scottj
Thomas 0 Posted May 2, 2005 The BIOS limitation can be bypassed in Linux. Windows needs the bios because it won't look directly at the hardware.
