nsxttt 0 Posted May 23, 2010 I just picked up two CNB VBM-24VF and I am very impressed at the low light images!!! These things are amazing without any IR. My question is - Are the Panasonic 484's that much better?
rory 0 Posted May 23, 2010 the 484's are not low light cameras .. they are Day Night but they are only 0.06 lux in BW. Compared to Exview Day Nights which can be 0.01 lux or less. Im not sure how well the Monalisa is in low light yet, there has been no comparison to Exview done yet that I could find. One has to recognize that most Day Night cameras over the past few years have not been low light, especially since DSS came out and when not using the DSS feature, and in comparison to exview cameras - they were typically just Super HAD. I will be testing that Monalisa Dome soon enough though, and will compare it with other types of day night cameras I will have here, even BW exview, then post results here (note, I never use DSS). Also the 484 is a WDR camera. So, 2 different cameras for different applications. if you are to compare the 484 it should be with the CNB V1167NVF/V2167NVF or VBB-34VF. Soundy 1 Posted May 23, 2010 Like Rory said... the 484 is pretty much the cream of the WRD crop, but they're not the greatest for low-light.
cglaeser 0 Posted May 23, 2010 In addition to the comments posted above, there have been significant advances in Super HAD II vs Super HAD. Most of the relevant data I have seen compares sensor technology, and I've seen very little comparing actual cameras, but just based on the sensor data sheets, one would expect good low light performance from this latest generation of Super HAD II. nsxttt 0 Posted May 23, 2010 Thanks for the clarification. I currently have eBay IR cameras too and they are horrible! Here's a comparison pic of the CNB and the Sony Super Had 480TVL 84 IR eBay cameras. CNB: 25W Lamp Light to the left. Street light aprox. 60 FT away. eBay Camera: This camera is to the right aprox. 20 FT away
rory 0 Posted May 24, 2010 to be fair ... though i dont know why as im sure the CNB would blow away that ebay camera anyway .. but the CNB has light in the picture, the ebay one doesnt (by the looks of it anyway) Also that ebay cam is just a color IR .. but that is still one awful image for even a color IR

Am I Right?
rory 0 Posted May 24, 2010 the cnb has "super back light compensation" and the example picture they show is the same picture they use for the WDR cameras. Am I Right? No not the same, Super Backlight is not WDR, monalisa does claim this super backlighting but not WDR. Cant expect it for the price either. backlighting feature just takes care of the front view (if lucky), not what is behind them, such as inside AND outside of a store entrance. Additionally even with so called Multi backlighting (Sanyo was the first several years ago) it is not the same as WDR. They have 2 versions of WDR, the Pixem and the DoubleScan .. the Pixem being the cheaper .. my experiences with Pixem on the GE WDR cameras left me keeping my distance from them, even though it was years ago, once bitten, well you know the rest. Far as I can see their DoubleScan is the Ultra WDR, their best, which is why it costs the most. Also they have the Eclipse camera (v2867nvf) which is around $10 cheaper then the WDR (v1167nvf) but its not WDR, although it has to be the cheapest licence plate capture camera out now!! ... but they have one in their new catalog that is coming out soon which has both the WDR and Eclipse together. Monalisa: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1077 WDR: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1099 Eclipse: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1092 WDR AND Eclipse: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1122 ofcourse please remember I am just going by specs, but doing some basic tests on their cheap domes really did impress me with them. this one for example, is impressive for the price: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1100 Ok yeah the pictures look like WDR right LOL .. i dont know .. for that price .. anyway .. I havent tested that feature yet
