CNB motion detection feature?

Recommended Posts

can someone explain to me how this works and what it is used for? I am familiar with how M/D works on the DVR end but how does it work on camera side?

On my vcm-24vf I can have a tree limb in the upper left corner that blows around setting on the motion record. So on the camera menu I can set the left zone height and width to cover the limb then turn down the motion sense level on that zone lower then I can on my DVR so it doesn't set off the motion record.... kind of like privacy zone. Is this what you meant?

so how does it look when you view the feed? is it a black screen over that area?

I can't speak for the CNB specifically, as I haven't used the motion-detect function in them, but the cameras I have played with it, it works much like a motion-detect area on the DVR, except it triggers an output relay on the camera, that you can then use to trigger a DVR to record (or whatever else you might want to trigger with it).

Can any one confirm that this is correct? If so, then Thank you! This was the answer I was looking for. I didn't even know there was an output relay on the camera. How come it is not really mentioned in detail in the manual?

No you can't see the box after you leave the menu hookup.

I don't understand. The dvr motion detection is based on analyzing the video feed and if "sees" motion it triggers the record. How does the camera mask your selected area? Does it black it out like with a privacy zone? If you have the motion detector zone setup and you view the feed what do you see different than if it was off?

I imagine it is exactly the same as the DVR motion detection feature, only it may differ from one to the next whether it masks it out or sets the selected area for motion. Which camera are you asking about?

ok i think I understand how it works now.

based on:

It seems that you select an area to detect motion. If it detects motion it will then fill the screen with that selected area?

I havent used that camera yet, or that feature, but here are the specific pages for that from the manual:

Please let us know what you find

it looks like it is for showing motion detection on screen, perhaps even triggering external devices (not sure), and works along with the privacy feature.

The relay itself may be optional... same with other features like built-in baluns, RS-485 control, etc.

My VBM-24VF didn't come with an output relay, however it does display 'motion' on the screen. It appears to be a little more sensitive and adjustable than my dvr, so I will use it to augment my motion detection (as the dvr picks up on the "MOTION" text when it's flashes on the screen)

What the camera sees in cut into 4 quarters. You can adjust the size of each corner, length and height, and set that area sensitivity higher or lower. So I have a tree branch in the upper left corner. I stretched that corner to capture all the tree limb then adjusted the sensitivity down to 1.

Well, I was playing around and could not set each zone "sensitivity" separate of each other so I wanted to clear that up.......unless I'm doing something wrong. When you change sensitivity it changes all.

I did spoke to CNB Tech Support regarding Motion Detection Feature here is what they have to say

If using DVR which any one would there is no reason to use Camera Motion feature would not help or make any difference

Only if you are connecting directly to the TV/Monitor it will make it more sensitive to the set motion area and will relay live video with very little improvement on sharpness

I did try that feature with DVR and as they said I did not see any change in video and also it’s not suppose to fill up the screen as it shows on its flyer when motion detected

So at the end it’s just marketing..
