Windows XP and video server E problems

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am having a strange problem which doesn’t make sense to me. I used to run XP on my home network and networked my DVR security through Video server E. I have upgraded my OS to windows 7 and so far so good. I have now added a third computer and installed XP on it but for some unknown reason I am not able to connect to the DVR I get a message “login failed” . yet all the setting are the same as in the other 2 machines. would really appreciate any ideas or help

Make sure your Java is up to date, if in doubt goto Suns site and download the latest from there, ive seen that cause this problem before. Also make sure you are an Admin and not a user.

That is really hard to say!

Dumb question which I know you have all ready done:

Can you ping the DVR?

Have you allowed for unsigned active x to "prompt"?

Is this PC set to a static IP, or does it pull an IP address from DHCP?

Hi there, to answer your questions:

Rory: Java is up to date and I am logged in as an admin

Scorpion: I have allowed for unsigned active X or I think I did… I have enable it in my browser if that what you mean. Ping command Ok and IP address was configured to automatic, changes it to static but same problem….

Strange indeed….

XP was a clean install?

I am thinking you may have some kind of winsock issue?

If it was not a clean install then i would look at system 32 drivers to see if you have a host issue.

Another option is to create a new Admin user, and try it from that account.

Another option is to install full XP in a Virtual Box PC, and try it in there.

If using Video Server E, it is a client, no need to allow activeX unless you are using Internet Explorer.

Hello again and thank you for all the advice and for trying. So far no sucsess ; these are the step I have taken so far

1. checked drivers, all drivers are installed properly

2. created another user and (administrator) tried to run Video Server E from there, same problem

3. XP was a clean install Scorpio not sure what you mean by Winsock problems

4. maybe this has nothing to do worth it but worth mentioning. Since I run windows 7 I am getting interrupted and delayed picture on my PC’s I have tried to get hold of the new firmware for my DVR (AVC 761) but having no luck so far. Could that have anything to do with it?

Once again, Thank you !
