programmergeek 0 Posted June 23, 2010 I am comming from the alarm industry where every one of the power supplie I use have battery backups. I went to order a power supply for about 10+ cameras and was shocked. first one sold to me has no safety if any of the 12 leeds gets tripped or cut it will burn the whole supply killing all the cameras. Next one I was looking at had fuses, what is this the 60's? Now looking none of them seem to have battery backups at all? Am I just looking at the wrong things? IS battery Back up needed? bpzle 0 Posted June 24, 2010 Welcome! I also started out in the alarm industry! My experience is that camera PSU's with built in backup are over priced. We used standard PSUs coupled with a big bad UPS. Afterall, what's the point of extended camera power if your DVR/ NVR does down? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Cameras aren't typically considered "mission critical" to the same point an alarm is, and like bpzle says, if the DVR isn't on a backup as well, there's no point in having the cameras still running... and once you have an external UPS for the DVR, it's easy enough to just plug the camera PSU into that. Keep in mind, too, that "professional/industrial" cameras are 24VAC; 12VDC is typically considered consumer-grade stuff. So far, I haven't found a 24VAC battery...
