install help for a newbee - sending video from DVR to TV

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I picked up one of those Q-See packages with 4 cameras and a dvr. I've wired one of the cameras up from the baby room down to the DVR in the basement. Everything seems to be working well up to that point.

If i hook straight from the DVR to a tv i get the signal, as if I hook up with a monitor.

Here's the hiccup.

I want to hook the tv signal up to the tv splitter - so I can view the video from any tv in the house using the coax wiring in the walls.

I am not using the coax for anything as I'm currently running IPTV (cat5).

What have I tried:

I tried hooking direct from DVR to tv coax - did not work.

tried dvr - cable splitter - tv - did not work

hooked up from dvr to TV, using co ax and coax-rca adaptor, working using input 1.

hooked up from dvr-splitter-tv using coaxrca adaptor - did not work.

I was hoping that I could just use a coax-rca adaptor at each tv location to get a signal - but it doesn't seem to be working that way.

Do I need a RF modulator to make this work?

Thanks in advance for all your help/advice.
