Well your computer doesn't have to be on to get your data... internet in the states isn't normally a problem and if it is I have access to all my files on my phone which I can download and install on the computer using my phone. BTW my customers are installing IP cameras so they have internet and this isn't a problem.

I don't have to word about forgeting you hard drive or jumpdrive at home or losing it some where...

So when you have to install software do you download the huge file while at the clients location?

Or do you carry a laptop with that software on it, something that could also be lost or left home?

Ive been doing this a few years now and never forgot my portable drive. Everytime I leave the house it goes with me, its as much important as is locking the door and arming the alarm.

Anyway, if you are happy trusting all your valuable data with an online server then go for it, me, I am not. Even if I were there is no way im going to download all that software when I get to the clients location. I do alot of jobs where they havent even had Internet installed yet, not to mention where the internet may be slow or down or just inaccessible for other reasons. Ofcourse it seems we are in two totally different industries.

The idea behind Dropbox is to replace jump drives

Well the idea is flawed big time IMO.

How will they get their data when the internet is down, or power is off, or the persons home computer is not running?

Uhh... if the power is off or the computer not running, your jump drive or external hard drive isn't going to do much good either.

Not to mention the security risks of leaving a folder on your computer shared to the internet.

The Dropbox folder is NOT "shared to the internet". Nobody from the internet can come in and browse on your computer.

What you put in the Dropbox folder is synced to their servers. The Dropbox client downloads from the server account to update your local folder, and uploads changes from the local folder to the servers. Other systems with Dropbox logged in with your account then sync that with the servers as well.

The only "remote access" is to the Dropbox servers, not to your systems. It may not be the right tool for you, but at least if you're going to be paranoid, try to be paranoid about something factual.

And as others have noted, installing the client is NOT REQUIRED; it provides convenience, but everything else you can do through the client, you can do through the web interface.

uhh, we were talking about the main computer where the data is stored over the internet, so like yeah at the clients location their computer is working.

Yes it is hackable, it is an open security risk and I will not allow that on my PC.

Thanks for the great sales pitch though, but its not for me. " title="Applause" />

Yeah I realize you covered that in the previous post, so all the personal data is stored on their servers online. I got it buddy
