What do you mean by safer?

If it can hold I normally back up to the local drive first (system partition), then manually copy that to my USB drive.

15 days could be alot though. Might want to back it up in parts.

Another way is to just copy the entire video data folder, or clone the entire drive, then run ezviewlog on that data.

I mean safety by not loosing any data or deleting it by mistake. Im trying it by using the back up system 15 days of this takes up 400 gb (belive it not ) this is the reson we want to transfer so we can then erase it from the dvr and fix this ptz that is tacking up a lot space. Its from a casino and they dont want to just delet with out saving it first. This is only for one camara. How would i do it by backing it up in parts?

If its just 1 camera, you could goto that camera number under the location where you are saving the recorded video to (storage path), then just copy that folder. If you have more then 15 days worth then its going to be large so you could go into that Camera's folder then just copy the sub folders of the dates you need. Then once that is done just delete those folders you copied, then run the database repair.

this might give you a little more info on the layout of the folders and recorded file names:

If something is really important I always make a copy of it or several, before I start deleting or editing. Perhaps clone the entire drive where the video is stored, or just copy the folder manually, to another local drive such as plug in temporary SATA drive, same size or larger, then disconnect it once its all copied. If you want to clone it you could look at a small program called DriveSnapshot (search google), it will just make an image of the entire disk and then you could restore it to the other temp/backup drive.
