yeah, sounds like each dongle is configured to work only with a specific card. Painful way to do it, but effective - if the counterfitting problem is as bad as they say it is.

Depends, might be some challange responce kind of deal, not too hard to beat. Or it could be they wanted the S/N to make sure he's legit.

Seems stupid... the distributor/dealer we bought the card from is listed on GeoVision's site. 1 of 2 listed in Canada, which is Sentry Security.

It is such a pain needing the serial number, we have customers like BurgerKing who have 15 systems. If we want to upgrade them all we must get all the serial numbers.

Version seven is so much better & gets rid of some of the glitches of earlier versions that we would like to upgrade.

We were told that Geo would be matching the serial numbers returned against invoices (I don't think so) to try to prevent the copying.

Guess the only way is to wait until the customer requires a new system, supply version 7 and then if he wants to upgrade the others charge him a fee to cover the travelling/labour involved.

Good lesson for us to record all serial Nos in future.

All the information that was provided here says alot about this company. We will never buy a Geo Card. Do you know how many cards we would have to upgrade (and we are a small company)? Terrible business.
