corey30 0 Posted August 9, 2010 Hi there. I am very new to this and would like to purchase a security for my husbands workplace. He is a mechanic and has a lot of expensive cars sitting outside every night. The reason I am asking on the forum is because our electrician bought a plug and play CAM OEM VR Dome IR 3.6mm 1/3" DN 520 tvl 12V DC. I am just reading this off the invoice and dont have a clue what it means. Its not very good. Its blurry and stops and starts all the when watching it. We need something that will be very clear and be able to pick out an image of thieves and the cars which is the only thing we want it for. I wanted to research this myself before I purchased another one as we dont want to waste any more money. This system was £1000 but we would be willing to spend more on it it just needs to be very good quality. If anyone can give us a bit of advice and even some sample cctv footage with the advised camera then it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Soundy 1 Posted August 9, 2010 Well, lot of questions need to be answered... One, what's your budget? How much are you *realistically* prepared to spend? I don't know how much £1000 will actually get you where you are, but that translates into about $2500 over here, which should get a decent starter system going. What's the make and model of the recorder? How many cameras are there? Trying to get a realistic idea of what you already have... Two, what's the area you need to cover? All around the shop? One side of the shop? Inside or outside? Is it a large area? Are the cars usually near the walls (and thus near the easiest camera locations) or farther away? This will affect the lenses needed, and the number of cameras. Three, what's the lighting like? Are there yard lights? Street lights? Much ambient light at night? This will affect the choice of camera.
corey30 0 Posted August 10, 2010 Hi there. We would realistically spend £3000 altogether. I think the make and model is H.264 8 channel networked DVR infra-red. They are anti-vandal domes. Manufactured by avtech. I think this is right, its the only thing I can find on the invoice. There are 4 cameras at the minute pointing to access points of the yard. These are all outside as this is the only place we need to watch. We would be adding another 4 on soon. They are 20 metre range which will be fine once the other 4 cameras are added. The cars are parked in a yard so wouldnt really be beside the wall as theres quite a few of them. We are really just looking for something with a much better image at night. We can see people walking about but unless you knew who they were you wouldnt be able to recognise them. Is there such a thing that would give you a great image at night or am I just being unrealistic? There is no light at night but we do have a couple of sensor floodlights up around the yard. These however seem to be more of a hindrance as when we walked up to a camera last night we turned white and you couldnt make anything out. Any help is much appreciated. Ashley 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Hello there, "IR 3.6mm 1/3" DN 520 tvl" does this camera have infrared LED lights? If yes, the led lights bad quality make face turn white too much to see clearly. Another, you want to cover 20meter, 3.6mm lens is too short. You must to use 6mm lens.
