Good Advice needed on home CCTV

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice on setting up a CCTV system on my house. My car has been vandalized on many occasion and I have decided to put a camera up.

I have been looking all over the web for how to guides on home CCTV but there isn’t that much out there.

I live in the UK and have a terrace house, I have small front garden only 2 metres wide and then a footpath about another 2 metres and then my car is parked in the street so about 4 metres from the front of my house.

Outside my house I have a candle light with a PIR sensor and a 100w bulb, also there is street lights but not outside my house.

I would like a dome camera fitted to the external wall, as discreetly as possible, I need it weather proof and able to record day colour and night but I don’t want IR on it as I don’t want people to see the camera from the front when walking past.

I would like to be cabled back to my home computer, I have a video card which I can connect it too.

Is there anything I am missing, can anyone recommend any cameras or a better setup would be great.

Thanks

Pawzoff,

I'm not an installer, and not sure what you can buy through the UK and Europe, but I have bought on the recomendation of this forum some of the following.

1x CNB VBM-24VF VANDAL RESISTANT DOME CAMERA, 600 TVL, 2.8-10.5mm VARIFOCAL LENS, 0.01 LUX

1x CNB VCM-24VF VANDAL RESISTANT DOME CAMERA, 600 TVL, 2.8-10.5mm VARIFOCAL LENS, 0.03 LUX

Price is about $150.00US

You will also find some advice on how to paint them black as they come in white. Knowing a little about British terrace (Row Houses) houses, how are you planning to bring the cable into the house, I assume a drilled hole through the masonry wall?
