Milestone and Sanyo VCC-HD2100 problem

Recommended Posts

I am still waiting to hear back from Milestone on this and wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on this issue it would be appreciated .

I am running Milestone Essential 1.0a with latest device pack and a Sanyo VCC-HD2100 and an Axis 2100(will be slowly adding more cameras to system). The Axis works fine but the Sanyo has some connectivity issues. First, you cannot see the preview in the Management program. It says cannot establish connection to camera. Also, you cannot configure video properties(i.e. resolution, etc) because it cannot connect to camera. You can view the camera in the client and it does record. You can configure the camera through internet explorer. It is using the default u/n password.

The second issue is in the client periodically it says server lost connection to camera. This seems to particularly happen when motion occurs.

On the first issue, I had a thought it was somehow related to admin rights on the camera but as I said it is using the default username and password. When the camera was added I think Axis is supposed to verify it has access to the camera so it seems like that should not be a problem but that is the best I can come up with at this time.

Give the man a gold star!

The camera refuses to update the firmware. After talking with Sanyo a couple of times, I was informed that cameras with serial numbers starting with 45(early production) have issues that require the camera to be returned to Sanyo and they have been trying to get these particular cameras back from dealers. So if anyone has strange issues with their 2100 look at the serial number!

On a side note, Sanyo support was very pleasant and helpful. Also, the camera image is very nice but noisy I can see that it will probably not be very good in low light as people have already reported.

Sounds like firmware issues

An update on my Sanyo saga. I sent back my 2100 and got a 2300 this time around. It came in today and.....same problem!

Another call to Sanyo support revealed the source of the problem. If you run it in IE6 or 7 on Windows XP then it will update. I rolled back IE to 6 and it worked. I didn't have time to see if my Milestone issues are resolved but at least it's progress.

I got a new 2300 and I don't have the upgrade problem. Have you tried to do the upgrade with EI 6 or 7? Next question is if this works will your always have to use EI 6 or 7 to upgrade them?

It was another camera with early firmware. I upgraded the firmware with Internet Explorer 6 on a Win XP Pro machine to the latest version. I actually did not think to ask them if this will be ongoing problem or not. They said they had just determined there was nothing wrong per se with the early cameras. But as you asked did they fix the problem in firmware with upgrading firmware or not? Given they previously said it was an issue with early firmware versions only my guess would be yes but the only way to know is to roll the firmware back to an earlier version and then reapply a newer version with Internet Explorer 8.

Did you actually upgrade your 2300? What firmware version did it come with? My main was something like 1.00-05 and the sub was 1.00-00. If your camera came with a newer firmware and you were able to upgrade your firmware with something other than IE6 or 7 than that probably answers the question.

Problems continue to plague me with this camera. I don't know if I am just having bad luck or it's the product. I am still having connection problems with the camera. I upgraded to the newest firmware and even rolled back to a slightly earlier version.

I determined it is the camera and not milestone. The camera periodically(maybe every 3-4 minutes) loses connection to the cameras. The camera makes a rattling noise when it does lose connectivity as if it is rebooting which is probably what is happening. I have tried powering it by 12V and PoE. I tried different network cables and even a different switch. It happens whether using Milestone or not.

At a loss what else to try. If anyone has any other suggestions I am all ears. I am going to try contacting Sanyo support again on Tuesday.
